Flames Flames re-sign C Adam Ruzicka (Two year, $762,500 AAV)

@jkamckenzie
Flames have re-signed RFA Adam Ruzicka to a two year deal. It'll be a two-way deal in year one, and a one-way deal in year two.

League minimum in both seasons, but the odd cap hit is because league minimum goes from $750,000 to $775,000 next season.

Maybe that second year being one way is what the lengthy discussion was about. Homegrown player - good to see him back.

Good! He should push for a roster spot in training camp this year. Good that we also signed him to a 2 year. No need to go through this again next summer.

This is a great contract. 2 years at just over league minimum?

Smart for Ruzicka too as odds are he will be on the team with the favorable cap hit.

That makes this even better. League minimum for both years.

If they want to save cap space, sending Ruzicka down doesn't help much as he is the lowest paid forward. That's a smart contract.

Would he have to clear waivers to be sent down? I'm thinking yes based on years, but wanted confirmation.

He was sent down because Darryl said if he has a place on the team it has to be on the top 3 lines. Lindholm - Kadri - Backlund. I don't see a spot for him if they are running with Rooney on the 4th line and Sutter's comments.

Came in cheaper than I expected. I was guessing $850k to $900k.

Pretty smart move by the player in my opinion. Makes him easy to move into a lineup that is all in. There should lots of great opportunities during this deal to prove he’s an NHLr.
