Default Devastating Floods in Pakistan

I've seen estimates of between 33M-50M people there being affected from the melting glaciers in Pakistan. So incredibly sad for the poor people there.

I've been watching the coverage. It's unfathomable how many people have been displaced by the flooding.

Plague, floods, war, drought... incoming famine seems horrifyingly likely in some places. These are some times to be living.

These natural disasters really put things in perspective about how good we have it here. Imagine losing everything and having to rebuild? It's ridiculously sad when you think about how the elderly and disabled deal with these things in these countries. So much devastation.

No kidding.

30 million people is like the entire country of Canada being affected at once.

It is honestly hard to fathom the level of disaster.

I imagine this is going to have a measurable effect on the world food supply and costs, especially with other events going on around the world. Pakistan is a pretty big exporter of food around the globe, but especially in Asia.

$100 000? That's like, not even pick up the nickle on the ground money for the US.

I bet each displaced person is waiting with bated breath for their .3 of a cent of American support.

They should just ship them a few tons of plastic sporks so they can start bailing.

Its about equivalently as useful.

I am sure there will be more aid coming from the U.S., but it seems like a really odd and in poor taste to make this kind of announcement for such a relatively small amount (Blinken claims it is $1.1 million). A GoFundMe campaign would probably raise more.

I also kind of assume that the U.S. is one of the biggest funders for the UN programs that will be providing aid.

I love the waving American flag accross the top of their little graphic too. So gross to have bravado when donating literally less than 1/3 of a Penny per person to those effected.

So so disgusting

It's kind of a kick in the nuts too because Pakistan has been supportive of the sanctions against Russia and has suffered economic blowback from it. They even applied for a $2 billion loan from the World Bank, with $1 billion of that going to Ukraine. Basically taking out a loan on behalf of Ukraine, which seems really generous. Pakistan owes Russia $1 billion and basically told them they aren't going to pay them, and instead are giving it to Ukraine.

You couldn’t replace that one building in the tweet above for $100,000.

My friend is Pakistani with family back home and a lot of what Pakistan has done to support Ukraine hasn't been spoken about in Western news. Basically they didn't have to do anything, but they chose to show support to Ukraine and the West. They deserve recognition for doing so, and deserve support now.

These floods are truly devastating and aren't getting enough attention. Really hope other countries step up to support them right now.
