Ruzicka - Keep up. He is ready to be a full time player.
Phillips - Try him in the top 6 in camp and if he produces, keep him for the start of the season for like 10 games. If he doesn't produce, send him down or try to trade.
Mackey - Waive for AHL assignment if he doesn't earn a spot.
Valimaki - Try to trade, then waive for AHL assignment if he doesn't earn a spot.
Meloche - Waive for AHL assignment if he doesn't earn a spot.
Ruzicka is the one I think would be most likely claimed.

Agree with everything except I don't think anyone claims Ruzicka only because other teams have players similar to Ruzicka. Valimaki is unique and I think will get claimed because of his pedigree so Flames should try to get something back.

I'm still assuming the Flames are signing Stone as the #8 D:
Mackey - Keep as #7 due to lower cap hit compared to Valimaki's and his performance as the Heat's best D last season
Valimaki - Trade due to cap hit unless he has an amazing camp.
Meloche - Demote
Ruzicka and Phillips - Wait and see how they do in training camp

Flames have an unbalance left-shot to right-shot defensive corps right now. They got Meloche (who is a right-shot fairly big d-man) for a reason. He might be demoted to the farm to start or the Flames are gonna make a trade to free up a spot for a right-shot d-man. We'll see. I think Mackey is ready but he's a left-shot. I think Valimaki's time in the Flames organization is done. Might as well try to get something for him.

Keep Mackey and Ruzicka. I think Mackey is miles ahead of Valimaki now, after watching the Heat last year.

Ruzicka -> Keep Up (1st Spot)
Phillips -> Keep Up (2nd Spot)
Mackey -> Demote (Unclaimed)
Valimaki -> Keep Up (1st Spot)
Meloche -> Keep Up (2nd Spot)
I think Valimaki, Ruzicka, and Phillips are all going to have very impressive camps.

There isn't room for that many bodies with the big club.
And beyond that, I suspect the Flames will try and keep the roster down at 21 or 22 as much as possible, with the wranglers right here in town

I suspect Valimaki, Meloche, and Phillips are all waived and clear.

I think Valimaki will be claimed if he goes on waivers.

Honestly, good. Eliminates his buried penalty and gives him a fresh start.
I don't know if anybody trades for him right now. He's very much in Juolevi territory.

It breaks my heart to think how good Valimaki looked before missing, pretty much, two straight years with injuries. He looked legit.

Does anyone think another GM looks at Valimaki and thinks he doesn't need anymore time in the AHL?
Cause that is probably the only reason someone claims him. They think Valimaki is a change of scenery away from being a NHL regular.
Otherwise they are better off trading for him after he clears waivers so they can put him on the farm team and hopefully restart his development.

Didn’t Kylington clear last year? Seems like ages ago.

Not even "probably": quite literally the only reason someone claims Valimaki is because they think he can make the jump to the NHL full-time this season.
