I went Zary ... but it was a tough call.
Had Kerins, Valimaki, Ruzicka all in mind too.

Valimaki feels like the best prospect but not the best FLAMES prospect

Poirier for me. He displays genuine character. Pace of improvements in his game and maturity of his character seem rapid. As a young defenseman (age 20) he has more time to mature than a forward as they usually enter the league at an older age.
His hands, shot and offensive hockey sense is potentially trending to an elite level. Good size. Good mobility.
Just imagine the upside when Sutter gets ahold of this guy.

Kerins for me. Just an absolutely dominant season in junior, and his draft position is irrelevant because of how badly COVID screwed up scouting. I like Ruzicka and Zary, but to me Kerins has the highest upside of anyone left. I was also this close to selecting Poirier after the season he had. Still plenty of work to do to get to the bigs, but the raw talent is there.

Zary this time, but Poirier was a consideration. I think he is about to take off.

Ruzicka for me this round. I think he'll earn a full time spot on the team this year out of camp.

Zary had a crap year, but he made the World Juniors and was a first round pick. At this stage he still has potential to be a top six fwd, but this year is critical for him to dominate. Pedigree counts for one more year. Otherwise Kerrins and Poirier

Ruzicka for me as well. Has been slow to develop, but an NHL spot is his to lose at this point.

Tough decision. Zary, Coronato, and Valamaki all had underwhelming seasons. Ruzicka had a great season but I am still not sold on him (but he is growing on me). Poirier and Kerins showed huge upside, but I think both are gambles. Phillips doesn't have NHL upside Imo. Schwindt has limited upside.
I went Zary. Still lots of upside at a premium position.

Ruzicka, Zary, and Valimaki kind of feel interchange for me over the next 3 picks. I went with Ruzicka though, because I thought he was a capable bottom 6 guy in limited playing time last year, but once he gets more comfortable with the pace of the game, could play up the lineup. It just feels like there's more there.

I said Zary. Valimaki’s attitude will prevent him from making the NHL at this point. He was so promising until getting hurt, now he seems to feel entitled to a starting spot. He’s trade bait at this point.

I am surprised so many people have picked Zary here.
He is very close to becoming a bust if I am being honest.
Another season playing on the 4th line on the Heat and he will be a bust.
I have seen nothing in a long time from him that would make me think otherwise.
That said I hope he lights up the league, I also hope Monahan comes back and performs like he has in the past. Wishful thinking. Sure would solve a tonne for this franchise.
What do people see in Zary that I do not?

Zary or Kerins for me. Really feel for Zary and what he went through to start the year last year. Almost feels like a lost development year for him. Hoping for a better outcome for him. Hopefully he tears up the A and get a cup of coffee with the big club.
Voting Zary until he comes off the board, and then Kerins.

Valimaki. I think his body condition was not good last season. I hope he puts lots of work this summer and gets top 4 role in the end of season. He is smart, has a big body and some offensive IQ. He was a little slow and took a little longer to make decision wuth the puck.
