Flames Mount Rushmore Round One
TNT coverage of the out door game had a Boston sports Mount Rushmore, and then the same for NHL history.
What about the Flames?
Straight poll ... we put four faces on the mountain (and then continue on if there's support for a top ten all time).
I'll put up a good 20 names to make sure I didn't miss anyone.

Got to start with McDonald for me. Cup win separates him from Iggy unfortunately.

I'm going to advocate for Bearcat Murray.
He's the Teddy Roosevelt of Mount Flamemore.
Washington/Jefferson = Lanny & Vernon, the two founding fathers
Roosevelt = Bearcat Murray, if you can't see why this is perfect just leave now
Lincoln = Iginla, not a founding father, lead through some of the darkest times in the country/teams history, and always mentioned in the greatest ever conversation
You can close the thread now.

Wasn't he a healthy scratch for a couple games in the 89 playoffs?
Iggy (and Kipper) were the two main guys in 2004
IMO, I don't think its close for #1. It has to be Iggy

There is no debate about who is number one. I love Lanny and all of the 89 era flames really. But Jarome is the greatest player we’ve ever had on and off the ice. He was in his prime and beyond here. And he was robbed of a cup that should’ve happened. The next 3 will be interesting.

Because I grew up watching him and he has been synonymous with Calgary for so long - Lanny McDonald is the first face on Mount Rushmore for me.

Deryk Engelland just wasn't here long enough to make the cut.

Edmonton guy here.
Without even looking at the names on the poll, Lanny McDonald's name jumped into my head. Iginla may be the best Flames player ever, but McDonald is an icon.

Lanny King McDonald.
Iggy was the better, more prolific player, but Lanny's legacy in Calgary is unmatched. Iggy hasn't spent any significant time here since 2013.

More than a couple. He played 14 of 22 games. The cup win was about Macinnis, Vernon, Gilmour, Mullen, Loob and Otto.

Lanny is probably the icon that pops into most out-of-market fans' minds when you mention the Flames, but Jarome Iginla is the best player in franchise history.
#1. Jarome Iginla
#2. Lanny McDonald
#3. Mike Vernon
#4. Miikka Kiprusoff
HM: Mark Giordano

Flames Mt.Rushmore for me would be all the Flames with retired numbers and including the one that's not retired for reasons Lanny Vernon Fleury Iginla

Voting Lanny first. Not the best player, not the greatest Flame career. But the Cup, the goal in game 6, the chase to 500, the 66 goal season. Greatest moments for me as a fan. It didn’t hurt that I was a kid at the time and felt it a bit more I suppose.

BTW who were the Bruins voted?
I’d go Orr, Espo, Bourque then probably Chara. Their next 4 would be awfully good too.

Nostalgia is a powerful drug.
Completely agree ... I'm often surprised to see modern players passing some of those 80s players. Doesn't seem the same.
