Icon36 Rangers sign Ryan Carpenter to 1 year deal (1 way, $750k)

Almost like the Flames traded Carpenter for Rooney

Total waste of a 5th round pick.

You would bash the player we drafted with the pick right away anyways.

Yeah in the end it was a throw away trade but playoff teams make these trades for depth to protect for injuries come playoff time.

The weird part is more that the forward group has been remarkably healthy for the last 4 seasons (outside of Monahan).

It's why we've barely seen any farm team players get called up.

I don’t understand this post at all.
Maybe there was a bigger market for Rooney yesterday and he is a better player….

Seriously.

Who cares? Even if Rooney is a huge bust you can bury basically the entire contract in the minors.

Good one. But not true. Only if there was a ridiculous anointment of a player being the next great answer to the Flames problems would I comment, and then I would say let's wait and see what the kid does in the pro ranks before we make proclamations either way. You never know what you have with a draft pick until they play their first year of pro hockey.

Nothing needs to make sense anymore after John left for Columbus.
Actually smart of Tre to sign these depth guys right now instead of trading picks for them later at the deadline. Like someone previously mentioned above, our forward group has been remarkably healthy recently. If there were a lot of injuries we would've been mad that Tre didn't use low picks to secure some depth.

He’s all defense no offense. Similar to when we signed Lewis last year. Sutter clearly has a type for his bottom six

Maybe it's the bitterness of how this offseason is going for the Flames admittedly, but not sure how Rooney moves the needle...

I did watch him against the Flames in October this past season where he actually scored against us. Truth be told, he had a good game and was seemingly tough to play against. But NYR faithful seem happy to see him go and advanced stats are, well, not good...
