DET acquires Ville Husso from Blues for 73rd OA pick
Husso was a pending UFA. Likely has already agreed to a deal with Detroit.

Isn't he UFA in a few days? That's a lot to give up.

I'm a bit surprised that's all it took. Husso looked really good this season, even if Binnington eventually took the net back from him.

He’s a UFA next week. It’s just his rights for now

he becomes a UFA in a few days, so that's a great deal for St Louis.
I'd expect the Red Wings already have an extension in place, otherwise it makes no sense to give up a 3rd.

I actually think the Leafs will sign one of those 2 and the other will end up in NJ.

This actually looks like a good deal for everyone.

win-win all around. Blues turn a UFA into a 3rd, and Wings have a solid duo in Nedeljkovic/Husso going forward.

Kind of a weird deal for Husso it seems like he likely could have got more money and/or term from a better team

That’s a solid tandem in Detroit now. They’re looking good.

Not sure why they thought they needed to trade for his rights,

there's other goalie needy teams out there (Leafs, Oilers, Devils etc), so Yzerman probably wanted to lock Husso up before he hits the market.
a 3rd does feel a bit steep, but I like it for them. Nedeljkovic/Husso is a solid and young enough duo so that they don't have to rush Cossa either.

Don't think I agree with that. He's only played half a season in the NHL, and his stats were only slightly better than average behind a good team. He was mediocre in playoffs and lost the net.
This deal almost has a Koskinen vibe to it, IMO.

Annoyed that the Sabres weren’t in on this one… nothing special about Detroit, even with our messy goaltending all season we actually finished ahead of them…
