Default Roy Keane to Celtic

Probably the best defensive midfielder of his generation, irishman Roy Keane will suit up for his boyhood team Glasgow Celtic. This is the biggest signing in Scotland I can remember (yes I remember Gazza - he was washed up even then).

And Roy Keane isn't washed up? He'll cause more problems than he'll solve. They've destroyed their wage structure to sign this guy while Petrov has been waiting for a new contract for months now.

Gazza wasn't washed up when he came to Scotland, did Euro 96 pass you by? Laudrup was also a bigger signing and of course far better Scottish born players have played here than Keane such as Dalglish, McNeil etc.

He is the only player who has played in Scotland in the past 10 who would have ever been in a world 11 at any point in their career. I wouldn't even compare Gascoigne to Keane. Outside of Scotland he won nothing and his form was erratic at best - Keane has countless english domestic titles and a champions league as a skipper no less. Gascoigne had more talent than Keane and a tenth of the professionalism and drive. Dalglish is a legend but that is before my time and I have never seen him play. Laudrup and Larsson both were brilliant strikers but were they at any point in their career one of the top two strikers in the world? - Larsson was perhaps on the fringe that one year he almost dragged them to a UEFA Cup but I don't think you'll find anyone who would put Brian Laudrup there, Michael alone was considered better than him was he not?
Just an outside perspective and an opinion at that, I realize that the Scottish soccer scene is very very partisan, I'm not a hardcore Celtic or Rangers supporter (I've always managed Stirling in Champ Man . Is he washed up? Maybe but Laudrup and Gascoigne while world class players have never had the kind of following that Roy Keane has. He has a profile even across the ocean and to me he is the biggest name in Scotland in 10 years.

Good move for Keane, and for Celtic.

No way would he go to the 3 ring circus that are always circling Spanish and Italian teams as far as media goes. He'd punch out some paparazzi, or punch a guy trying to take the **** out of him on the field.

Even though I don't buy the argument that he's past it, as he'd still be In Man U's starting 11 if not for his foot injury, even in the extreme case where he's lost half a step, he's still ahead of most as far as speed, skill (for a defender) in the Scottish league...and his hard tacking and toughness are ideal for the Scottish game.

My gut agrees with you Browna, I think he will be very effective in Scotland. I think the true test for him given the way the current season has played itself out in Scotland will not be winning the league this year but next season, the champions league and perhaps the season if rangers stabilize. Though who am I to be counting out Hearts this early, they look wicked this year.

Does his professionalism include the multitude of cheap shots and kicks to the backs of players legs?

Keane is a good player but if he ever made a World 11 or was considered for one then it only could have been because the selector was a Man U honk or the options were very weak.

Roy Keane is a good player but Gazza was much better when he came to Scotland and is overall a much much better player.

I sure this will help Celtic while they are trying to qualify for Europe and Rangers are moving on in the knockout stage. I would say that Keane could help Celtic out here but seeing as they have never experienced it and never will I guess it will have to be left to wonder if he would have helped Rangers as they go through.

Spare me the pro Rangers ****, I'm not pro-celtic or man u, I'm not even european. The Celtic will never go through and Rangers have na-na-na crap is pointless, I don't care about it - aren't both clubs almost the exact same size? What would bring you to conclude that one team will never go through the champions league? I think celtic actually have won the European Cup already haven't they - before the current format but your view is kinda weird. Keane's professionalism refers to his will to win and his hard work in training as oposed to Gazza's late night partying and no winners medals in his career outside scotland. Was Vinny Jones unprofessional because he was hard on the pitch? If you think Gazza was a better player than fine I respect that opinion but certainly don't share it. They are totally different players in different positions and while I have no love for Man U they won the lot and Keane was their engine in midfield.
