Seems like it's between Pelletier (LW), Ruzicka (C/RW), and Eakin. I'll go with Ruzicka.

One of the many voices in my head told me it was going to be Iggy coming out of retirement to take the spot.
But if we ignore that it'll probably end up being Jake Virtanen.

I hope that Pelletier has a camp that leaves Sutter no choice but to try him. That is the only way that he gets it, IMO.
Maybe Ruzicka goes to the wing for a bit to play there otherwise until Pelletier earns it in Sutter's eyes, and then Ruzicka slots down to 4C and Rooney to the press box at that point?
Or maybe an injury forces the situation.

Would love to see Pelletier come in and just TAKE the spot. Don't leave it up to doubt. Just take it.

Cole Schwindt could be a sleeper. I just can't see the flames leaving that pot open for a rookie. Its not usually how they do things. Their is just to much on the season for that. I think their is a trade in the works unless it falls apart.

Pelletier has a much better claim than Schwindt. I'm ready to be surprised, but ...
Anyway, Darryl's 2014 Kings had Toffoli and Pearson in the top six because they were clearly good enough. I think they're leaving that spot open for Pelletier to prove he's an NHL player. And if he does, boom, better to run with him than give up assets in a trade.

Not so for the 2014 Kings: Lewis had more Ice Time than Toffoli who had #10 ice time (12:56) for Kings forwards. Toffoli had 10 regular season games and 12 playoff games in 2012-13
Pearson had 10:49 in TOI in 25 games...NOT top-6
In the 2014 playoffs Toffoli beat out Lewis for the #9 TOI.... Tofolli was getting PP time.
I would be shocked if Pelletier gets more than 4th line spot duty unless there are injuries and then I would expect the Flames to find a serviceable veteran.
Sutter is just starting to trust Dube a little bit
This is an all in Flames year and not a development year.
PS. Lucic is getting paid anyway. the #9 forward spot is his to lose.

I think there’s a decent chance Pelletier gets the 3rd line vacancy but has #11-12 forward TOI. Lewis and Rooney (eakin too) will play PK and Lucic might play PP2

Schwindt is a rookie too
Or are you saying you don't think either of them get it?

I think, in order of likelihood:
1) Pelletier
2) Schwindt
3) Ruzicka
(I think Ruzicka is more likely to be a 13th forward, 4th line filler. Whereas th other two would not get that role, they would be better off in the Z

Ruzicka IMO, can work on face-off when the draw is on backs week side, playing with Coleman and Backlund is the best spot for development.

I can't see Schwindt even being in the conversation in this point. He's down in the middle of the Phillips/Duehr/Jones tier of guys for me. He got three NHL games last year but only because Florida was completely decimated, health-wise. He has a long way to go.

Pelletier adapted quickly the pro game and flourished last season. There's reason to believe he'll take the next step.
