Default March of the Penguins

I rent DVD's online and I was browsing the new release. I came across a documentary called March of the Penguins. It had a lot of user reviews and all of them were 5 stars. I am a sucker for documentaries, sucker for anything Antarctica and nature in general. So of course I had to rent it.

Boy, I was blown away. This movie was way better than I expected, even though I read tons of positive reviews. It's quite the story about love and the urge to continue ones species. It was shot beautifully with amazing landscape cinematography. The story revolves around the emperor penguin, who all "walk" to a safe mating place over 70 miles from the ocean.

The documentary is narrated by Morgan Freeman's soft baritone voice. He was the perfect choice. I highly, highly, highly recommend this movie to anyone. It's the perfect choice for a family movie night. Kids could learn a lot from this movie. After watching this, you'll see how amazing life really is.

While I certainly agree that kids will learn a lot from this, be forewarned that when I saw it, several parents had to take their sobbing children out of the theatre. Baby penguins die in this film, and while it's not *that* graphic, it's bad enough that small children might be scared or upset.

I agree that it was a great documentary, though. Does the DVD have much in the way of bonus features? I'd love to see a "making of" feature; I really wonder how they were able to get some of the shots they did.

I saw that in the theatres..

I loved the penguin fights, the females walking back to the males after feeding and slipping all over the ice. That movie was awesome! Beautiful cinemetography too!

Good point on the dead baby penguins, I never thought about that. I wouldn't call it graphic at all, but then again, I am not 5.

The "making of" featurette was very good. Interesting how close they got to the penguins.

We saw it this weekend as well. It was really amazing.

I've heard a couple people who brought their kids, who wished they hadn't though. Their kids just weren't really into it.

I watched it this weekend too! what an awesome movie. I guess only the French would be crazy enough to spend 3months in artic hell! hehehe.

The funniest thing is that i watched War of the Worlds right before it with Morgan Freeman narrating also. That had to have been one of the worst movies i have EVER seen. I can't believe people paid $11 to watch that in the theatres. They must have been sooo ****ed.

Anyways March of the Penguins made up for the 2.5 hours i wasted watching Mr.Scientology. I was just waiting for Travolta to show up somewhere.

I found it boring. I mean, the entire movie consisted of Penguins either A) Standing or B) Walking. The camera work was pretty cool and the story is alright but I think it was stretched out way too long. Im glad I rented it and didn't see it in the theatre because the FF button on the remote got a work out. I'm sure that you could watch that movie on fast forward with the commentary from Freeman on normal speed and the movie would still make sense.
