Icon59 Koskinen goes Swiss

2 year deal with Lugano.

Too bad he didn't get an extension in Edmonton.

Can we give a huge kudos to Koskinen’s agent? Somehow managed to get him a 3 year deal with a total of $13.5m right before Chia got the boot.

I never hated Koskinen — they treated him terribly and he was overpaid by a mile, but he was never NG except for when he was on the ice. And even then he managed to post some decent numbers (27-12-4 this year).

In his last NHL game he posted a 0.952 save percentage while Smitty got shelled. Nice way to end it.

Wonder what his salary is there.

Have to think he could have gotten like a 2 x $2M from some team in the NHL.

He wouldn't be a bad backup, just don't count on him for 60 games as a starter.

They really should have ran with Koskinen in the #1 position. They would have finished 2nd in the Pacific, made it to the conference finals and got swept by the Avs.

Interesting... how does one live a "weak high glove-side" life?

that contract extension is still so crazy on many levels. It came days after the Penguins signed Casey DeSmith to a 3 year deal at $1.25m, and a day or so before they canned Chiarelli. It just made no sense whatsoever ... teams weren't exactly lining up for Koskinens services, a comparable goalie had just signed for less than a third, and Chiarelli was pretty much gone already. Just a beauty of a contract in every way.

It was so bizarre it almost felt like Chiarelli ####ed them knowing he was done. I know that’s not realistic, but it makes as much sense as that contract.

83-59-13 record with a .907 save percentage

not saying he is an amazing goalie or anything but they really treated the guy like #### and considering the way they play he kinda bailed them out a lot this season.

If Oiler fans think Smith/Skinner is an upgrade GL with that...Koskinen basically saved their season

On a decent defensive team I think he would actually have good numbers

Maybe...but he still had an atrociously sub-par Glove for an NHL Goaltender.

there are much worse goalies in the NHL

I'm really surprised he isn't staying in the NHL. Would be a solid backup. Think about how bad the defense was in front of him for so many seasons.
