Default Jack Johnson, SC finalist AND university graduate.

Quote:
Jack Johnson is having the spring of his life -- on and off the ice.

Colorado's veteran defenseman waited 16 years to finally be playing in the Stanley Cup Final, which the Avalanche lead 1-0 over Tampa Bay heading into Saturday's Game 2.

At the same time, Johnson realized another childhood dream -- graduating from the University of Michigan with a degree in general studies.

It was a long -- and somewhat ironic -- road to both achievements. Johnson was drawn toward an education thinking he'd never make it in pro hockey. Turns out, he would reach the pinnacle of both personal and professional success at the same time.

"What did it take me, 18 years [to finish]? Most people are at least a doctor at that point," Johnson joked. "As a little kid, I never really thought I'd be good enough to play in the NHL. I grew up dreaming of playing college hockey at Michigan, I wanted to graduate from there. It meant a lot to me. [To] graduate, [I'm] pretty proud of that."

Good for Jack. If he wants to coach NCAA this will be an asset.

Who cares what his program was? Dude pursued what he wanted to do, and that’s all that matters.

So lame when people trot out their moral high ground on other peoples educational choices.

It was a joke - and I’m sure most people were thinking it. Hell, I bet Jack would laugh at that… so much sensitivity these days.

It was a mean-spirited, demeaning joke about someone else's accomplishments which don't measure up to the "joker's" lofty expectations for others.

When a man takes 18 years to get a degree in General Studies, a certain amount of ribbing comes with the territory. I'm sure Mr. Johnson is glad of his accomplishment, and rightly so, but let's face it, this is not news; it's a puff piece.

Many hockey players complete their degrees while playing in the NHL. If you want to be impressed by it, you can always be impressed by Dr. Randy Gregg, who combined an NHL career with an M.D., and did it despite the additional handicap of being a no-good Oiler.

What's happened in this thread is pretty much the real-life equivalent of a silly old joke:

A university student graduated and decided to tell the whole world. He climbed the highest mountain he could find, waved his diploma around, and yelled: ‘Look, world! I got my BA!’

The grumpy old World opened one eye and told him: ‘That's AB, kid. Now get back to me when you learn the whole alphabet.’

Who said I was “impressed”? And maybe I’m not “sensitive”?

Maybe, what I am, is a guy who’d rather celebrate the accomplishments of a guy who persevered through some ####ty circumstances instead of making a tired, crappy joke.

What makes it your job to ‘celebrate the accomplishment’ of a complete stranger who got a university degree while working full-time in a different field?

I guess the same thing that makes it your job to judge other people's jokes and censure them for making posts you don't like on the Internet.

Censure…. HAHAHA.

And what makes it his job to be a third rate comedian? Or your job to stick your nose in to arguments between other people? Give it a rest.
