Preview
Calgary at Edmonton

The Flames have roared out of the gates in both games only to see multi-goal leads disappear in both outings. They blew a 6-2 lead in Game 1 before claiming a 9-6 victory, and then lost 2-0 and 3-1 leads en route to Friday's loss.

Granted, Oilers superstar captain Connor McDavid has taken his game to a new stratosphere, but the Flames are hurting themselves with too many penalties and more.

Game Preview

The Calgary Flames know the recipe they want to follow in their Western Conference second-round playoff series with the Edmonton Oilers.

When the Flames hit the road for Sunday's Game 3 of the best-of-seven series that is tied 1-1, their plan is to skate in more five-on-five play instead of the special-teams battles seen in the first two games, especially in the Oilers' 5-3 victory on Friday.

"A four-on-four goal, a five-on-four goal, a short-handed goal for them," Calgary coach Darryl Sutter said. "If you're not playing five-on-five, that's definitely to their team's advantage."

Flames look to slow down Oilers' Connor McDavid in Game 3

He became the fastest active player to reach 20 points in a single playoff year, reaching the mark in nine games -- and the fastest since Mario Lemieux needed just eight games in 1992. McDavid, who has six goals and 14 assists, has posted five consecutive multi-point games and is only the second player in NHL history to record multi-point games in eight of nine outings to start the playoffs (the other being Darryl Sittler in 1977).

Can't wait to hear the silence in Roger's Arena after the Flames steamroll the Oil and take a 2-1 lead in the series

Beat the Grease. We need to establish a cadence for 60 minutes where we roll all 4 lines and keep everyone going.
Skating, hitting, north south hockey mixed in with a little discipline (smarts) and allot of possession.
I don't care how boring it becomes but slow S down so that this doesn't become the McSaviour love fest up in Edmonton.

So in short....playing keep a way from The oils best , be smart , don't give easy stupid calls to the refs and we win.

Oh and no more of scooter telling the world how his adjustments and team are just better than us.

Sounds easy. Takes work. Ready fellas? LFG!!!!

Need to win 1 of 2 in Greaseville to get home ice back. This was never going to be a quick series.

Flames win tonight with a defensive clinic type game & there is immense pressure on Edmonton in Game 4.

4-2 Flames with an empty netter.

There is no way Markstrom puts up 3 stinkers in a row right?

Wtf is up with NHL scheduling? 8:50pm start to a late game 6:00pm start??? Stuck at Otafest until 730pm tonight... ugh

Hoping for fewer shenanigans this game, and the flames dominate them 5on5 like we know they can.

Onwards!

I feel uptight on a Sunday night, so I plan to pour me a Cold Gin and watch the Flames get some Revenge.

That Darn Puppet looks to play the Destroyer up north, and will inspire the boys to Rise To It. No place for hiding, baby...no place to run!!!

Spoiler!

I want to see some big hits thrown in the first ten minutes, and another quick two goals.

4-2 Flames, Johnny with a pair, Jarnkrok finally gets one and Ritchie keeps it rolling

Go Flames go!

That said, this is a tricky game for me. Watching the over penalized special teams competition last game was not interesting, fun or desirable at all, and damaged a lot of my interest in this series/playoffs.

If we get another game like that, that could be it for me/my interest in NHL/hockey for a while until/unless they clean it up.

I'm here to watch playoff hockey, not a special teams-fest since that's the only way one team seems able to play.

The NHL needs to realize they are doing more damage than good with this, and stop trying to make McDavid happen.

Anyone have the flames warmup playlist? I didn’t recognize enough of it to make one myself.

I’ve read this so many times in the last two days and honestly, I’m not a fan of that kid of defeatist outlook.

Every series has the potential to be a short series. We should expect no less than to win every game. Failure to do so isn’t the end of the world but what kind of attitude is it to just assume we can make it a short series?

Every player in that room better believe we can win the next game and the next game and the next game after that and it better be their goal to do so.

Taking the viewpoint that it’s gonna be a long series is how you end up blowing leads and letting lapses in defensive coverage slide.

It’s like some sort of coping mechanism to blowing a should have won game. But it’s not a good outlook. The series takes as long as it takes. There is no such thing as series that are destined for a sweep or for 7 games. There’s only what actually happens. Win the next game and anything is possible, including a short series.

I refuse to accept that we can’t make it a short series.

Do we know who the refs are tonight?

Controlled aggression on the for-check tonight please.

I hope the teams adapted its philosophy to defending McDavid.

Marky tonights the night to have one of those brick wall games.

Remain 5 on 5 and try to at least square the special teams battle and we will win.

That crowd being silent and going home upset would be so satisfying.
