Meh...he was never ever going to win it anyways so he likely finished 4th in balloting and probably very close to the 3rd place guy whether that was McDavid or Shesterkin.

It's a reason why I hate that journalists get to vote on some awards. So many reporters are just terrible, and absolute homers

I don't buy the eastern bias. This is a tough award to narrow down to three players this year.

I think we all know here that McDavid isn't the best player in this province.
But let the baby have another individual award. We all know that its all about him.

Voted for Kodos

How you can tell journalists simply look at the points leaders and then vote.
McDavid? Lol.
I can’t think of a single reason why someone would have voted for McDavid over Gaudreau.

Since Thornton won straddling both conferences, the East has 9 winners to 6 in the West.
3 of the western winners are Oilers, which kinda supports the idea that the reporters don't actually watch the games.

Playing in 10 less games than Markstrom and Saros helps inflate his leading GAA and SA% in my opinion.
10 extra games and Markstrom has .922 SA% 2.22; Saros has .918 SA% 2.64 GAA
That shows a higher level of play over a longer season i would have both Markstrom and Saros ahead of Shesterkin for Vezina.

They certainly had a longer season, but not a higher level of play, a lesser level of play.

No one narrows it down to 3 players. All players get voted on, these are just the top 3 finishers after voting is done.

I suspect politics were involved here with Gaudreau being buried in ballots from Edmonton, Toronto, NY. McDavid may have led the league in scoring but it was all based on powerplay points and despite how hard Edmonton media tries to spin that he's a complete player, he's far, far from it. I am surprised that he got in but maybe the voters feel that if you win the scoring race that means you are most valuable.
