Hart voting, can Johnny win?
What is most important to the voting writers? the definition is "most important to his team" but lets face it,it rarely goes that way.
Right now I think it's a 4 way race between Gaudreau, McDavid, Matthews and Huberdeau.
Points:
McDavid-110 (1st)
Huberdeau-108 (2nd)
Gaudreau-105 (3rd)
Matthews-102 (5th) (1st in goals)
Points per GP:
McDavid-1.47 (1st)
Matthews-1.46 (2nd)
Huberdeau-1.44 (3rd)
Gaudreau-1.40 (4th)
Points per 60/GP:
Gaudreau-4.578 (1st)
Huberdeau-4.469 (2nd)
Matthews-4.255 (4th)
McDavid-3.966 (10th)
ES points per 60:/GP
Gaudreau-4.309 (1st)
Huberdeau-4.039 (2nd)
Matthews-3.649 (6th)
McDavid-2.978 (25th)
ES points:
Gaudreau-83 (1st)
Matthews-74 (2nd)
Huberdeau-70 (3rd)
McDavid-68 (6th)
+/-
Gaudreau (1st) by a mile, rest don't count
Thoughts!

He should but he won't. It's a ridiculous class this year.
My finalists would be Johnny, Shesterkin and Matthews.
But you then have Kaprizov, Huberdeau, McDavid all with good cases too.

Sorry what about that little goalie in NYC? Seems like he’s the front runner by quite a bit. Without him Rangers aren’t even in a playoff spot IMO.

it's crazy to have so many 100 pt guys this year. Back when Jamie Benn and John Tavares were vying for the Art Ross that felt impossible

He's got a +/- of +59, so he has to be in the conversation. That's the best since Konstantinov went +60 for the Red Wings in 1995-96.

Josi has to be part of the conversation too.

No love for Josi? I'd give him the nod over Shesterkin, otherwise I agree with your nominees.
I can't remember a year where there have been so many deserving candidates for the Hart.

Roman Josi should be in the conversation. On pace for 99 points, could potentially get 100... as a defenseman. Leads his team in scoring with 12 points over the next player. Aside from scoring, he is great at both ends of the ice.

Isn't it traditionally "harder" for a Dman or Goalie to win it? Because they already have their own awards.
I think with eastern bias, centre bias and just flat out bias, Matthews will win it. McDavid will capture a lot of the western media and lazy media.
I just don't see how he wins it. I wouldn't be surprised if he places 5th or so in the voting
But when you do a deep dive on the stats he should absolutely be right near the top.

Matthews with 50 bonus points in voting because he plays for the Leafs. Gaudreau unfortunately finishes top 5 but outside of top 3.
My prediction in order:
Matthews
McDavid
Shesterkin
Gaudreau
Huberdeau

I’d be hard pressed to suggest that Josi isn’t the most valuable player in the league.

Matthews, Gaudreau, Josi, Shesterkin, - all having years that would easily win the Hart most seasons. McDavid has won the Hart playing just like he’s being playing this year.
That’s not to count guys like Huberdeau, Makar etc.
Shesterkin would have been hard to beat had he kept up with the best goaltender season of all time, which he was doing for a while, but not anymore.
Among Forwards, the choices have to be between Matthews and Gaudreau. They have been the best two forwards this season. McDavid is the best ONLY in points, but not so far ahead in that that we can ignore the massive amount more minutes that he plays.
Josi is deserving, but is t enough to overcome the amazing seasons from others?

In many other years he may have a chance but he may not even be a finalist. He has no shot of winning. Zero.
Between Matthews, Josi and Shesterkin, plus McDavid and Huberdeau he may not make the top 5.
The ES points thing is cool but no one cares about it outside of Calgary.

I don’t care if he wins it (I think he should). However, if McDavid finishes higher in the voting, I’m going to be furious. There are several deserving candidates, McDsvid is not one of them.
That’s not to say he isn’t having a great season. There is simply no argument for him over Gaudreau or Matthews, however.
There’s no shame in losing the voting to Matthews, Shesterkin, Josi. At least one of those three, plus Gaudreau, won’t be a “finalist”, when they deserve to be.
All 4 of those players are playing on teams better than McDavid’s, and all those teams aren’t nearly as good without the impact of those players - so that’s not a reason to pick McDavid either.
All that said, I think Gaudreau should win and is most deserving.

Matthews, Shesterkin and Josi probably finish top 3. Gaudreau, Huberdeau and McDavid vying for the top 5.

Biggest problem for Johnny and Josi is that most of the voting media do not see them play regularly, mostly just in hi-lites.

I expect it's between Matthews and McDavid it's what the eastern media are pushing, and media votes.
