Default Calder finalists are....

Calder Trophy finalists: Bunting (TOR), Seider (DET), Zegras (ANA).

Bunting is 26 yrs old. How many 1st place votes out of TO did he get to be on this short list? Makes some people in the centre of the universe look bad.

I knew many Habs fans were were saying that Cole Caufield would double any of the other rookies in points.

I think I would give it to Zegras. Has the best chance of aging well, since I'm certain he will be a top scorer in this league. Plus, he already has a sick highlight reel.

That's a tough one. Seider is a stud, but Zegras is great, and has been so visible.

Zegras has unbelievable hands. Tons of fun to watch.

Bunting LOL. Drafted in 2014, this is purely a Toronto thing.

Seider is a 50 pt rookie d-man who hits like a truck. I think he should win it comfortably.

Makarov won his as a Flame at age 31.

Bunting being drafted in 2014 shouldn't matter. The Calder Trophy is awarded to the best player who qualifies. Not the one who is supposed to have the best career or anything other than best at the game of hockey. We should know since Makarov's win got the age requirement added.

Bunting had the most points of the rookies, nearly all of which were even strength points. It doesn't matter since he's not going to win anyways, but this was hardly some travesty and the "oh east bias" is getting tiresome. Especially for the Vezina when it's voted on by GMs.

Bunting has been a revelation on that top line with Marner and Matthews. Zegras is an entertaining player that should be in highlight clips for years to come.

For me, no question, Seider deserves the Calder. He defends, he hits, he plays big minutes and he gets points. Future star for sure.

I think Seider is going to run away with this.

If Ekblad can win the Calder in 2015, then Seider can do it in 2022.

Zegras was electric this year and deserves some consideration as well.

If Bunting was born two days earlier he wouldn't have even qualified under the Makarov rule.

According to the NHL definition of a rookie

To be considered a rookie, a player must not have played in more than 25 NHL games in any preceding seasons, nor in six or more NHL games in each of any two preceding seasons. Any player at least 26 years of age (by September 15th of that season) is not considered a rookie.

Michael Bunting turned 26 on September 17, so he just barely qualifies.

Bunting had a fantastic year; integral to one of the best lines in hockey. The only bias I see is CP anti-Toronto bias

Lucas Raymond was better. Played with lesser teammates and on a terrible team and was only a few points behind Bunting.

Being on a worse team gave Raymond opportunity to play on the top unit of the powerplay where he put up a significant amount of his points. And it's not like Larkin and Bertuzzi are chopped liver.

I think Bunting, Raymond, and maybe even someone like Jeannot who brought more than just scoring to the table could make reasonable cases to be the third nomination.
