Default Streaming Playoffs in Calgary

What is the best way to watch playoff games in full HD or even 4K without getting Shaw or Telus?

I know SNNOW or NHL Gamecenter are two of the options, but how is their quality. Will be watching on an Apple TV, if that makes a difference.

NHL Live has all the playoff games.

Watching on my Apple TV last night the quality for games like the Blues vs. Wild (Bally Sports feed) was terrific. Sportsnet feeds are what they are. I think they still look good but if you aren't a fan you could switch over to the Dallas feed.

No 4K with NHL Live however to the best of my knowledge.

I believe you only need SN Now for some Flames games during the regular season. No need for that in the playoffs. I live in the Flames/Oilers region (Sask) and had no issues last night watching the Oilers/Kings game on NHL Live.

Tonight’s game is also on CBC so you should be able to stream that for free.

Does Sportsnet always have trouble with pixelation. Last night, while watching the Oilers LOSE, I noticed the stream will ever so slightly pixelate and then it goes smooth again after 10 or so seconds. Seemed like it was constantly doing that throughout the broadcast.

I use Telus Pik app on Apple TV. You don't need to have Telus Optik with cable boxes. You can get all the local channels plus an add for sports. Its pretty cheap if you already have Telus Internet.

No 4k rig in Calgary.

I find the streaming quality through the app to be vastly superior to any cable broadcast.

If it is within your budget, I say go for NHL Live.

A couple of years ago I used to use pirated streams that were linked in Reddit. Aside from moral questions about it, a lot of them are just vectors for getting adware and trojans on your computer. Not to mention that the quality was inconsistent.

Have used SNNOW and CBC streaming. They always have a 30-60second lag, which I despise. Their FAQ says this is out of their control.

Is NHL Live better in this regard? Or is the only way to remove lag with a cable box + expensive cable plan?

There is still lag with NHL Live, probably about the same. Oddly enough, when I use it on on my computer, I find that there is less lag than when I stream on the TV.

Sometimes I will have the game on TV for my wife, but then I will have it on the computer so I can listen on my headphones while I am making dinner. She thinks I have an uncanny ability to predict when a goal is coming and I have let the lie go on too long to tell her the truth now.

Got the old jerrold converter with antennas stretched out and using aluminum foil to slide along the antennas until the snow screen disappears .
It's like watching hockey in the old days....lol....of course I'm kidding but over 40 years ago a guy had to do what he had to to watch him some hockey.

That brings back memories. I remember having an antenna attached to wires and tin foil, but also having to arrange seating in the room because where you sat affected how good the reception was. If someone had to get up to go to the bathroom or get a beer, you would lose the game for a few seconds.

SNNOW stream was suprisngly good last night. No major pixelation issues like I had watching Edmonton LOSE the other night.

SNNOW streaming from a PS5 to a 4k TV has done the trick for me all season.

If you want to experience the game close up, go to the dome parking lot. There is a giant party, stage, big screens, food trucks starting 3 hours before and through the entire game

I posted this in another thread but I think it fits here as well:

I went and purchased the Sportsnet now premium package and I couldn't believe how choppy the feed was for the flames game. It had to buffer every few minutes. Absolutely awful.

Plus it seems 85% of what I paid for was to view sports betting commercials.

What a horrific experience.

There has to be a better option than this garbage product.
