Gnarly. I've only ever seen a car fire once: an old air-cooled Porsche 911 on Hwy 1 near Calaway Park, about... 11 years ago.

That’s crazy

Also just as crazy is how you’re able to steer, accelerate (assuming you’re using a hand trigger cause you’re gimp), film accurately with your phone, pay attention to what’s in front of you on the busiest road in Calgary Deerfoot and listen to great big sea all at the same time

I don't think we should all jump down your throat about it, but probably better not to pull out the video Camera while driving, bad enough all of the people who basically come to a full stop to take a look.

A few months ago on John Laurie during rush hour dense traffic there was a CUV ahead that was smoking badly. It smelled so bad I had to close my vents but since it was dense traffic you couldn't escape it. Anyway they just kept driving along as the smoke got worse and worse until it started billowing out and I expect the engine finally seized and they finally pulled over with an underhood fire. I just kept driving by because I'm not going to help someone dumb enough to not stop their car when it's smoking under the hood like that.

If people are going to come to a full stop and rubber neck anyway they might as well record it so I can see it.

I saw a car on fire and another one smoking on the i-5 driving through LA.

They weren't in the process of pulling over either. They were just continuing on their way from A to B by the looks of it.

It's a different world down there.

Is rubbernecking really the reason for slowdowns? or is slowing down actually just the right thing to do when something ####ed up is going on that may involve responders/etc?

Rubberecking is definitely a thing unrelated to slowing down. The only thing I find is that everyone in the world calls out rubbing necking while in my experience it's more like 90% of motorists, including me. I can't not.

I mean I'm disappointed no one pulled over and got out and started jumping up and down whilst chanting "GO FLAMES GO!!!"

actually there was a traffic jam and slow going, i was watching the road for the driver. but yeah had deerfoot been moving normal no way we do that. i've been meaning to get a dashcam because I have witnessed a crazy amount of incidents.

I think the concertina effect + losing a lane or two of throughput just takes a lot longer to resolve itself than people think...of course you take a look as you go by but that isn't the reason for the slowdown

When opposing traffic is getting jammed up by it, it's definitely rubbernecking
