Game Night: Blues at Flames

WHY WATCH?

DOG DAYS OF APRIL?

It’s hard to say that with an entire month of the regular season left to go, a change from the normal NHL norm which usually sees the playoff matchups all but decided by now. But there’s lots of hockey to be played. It’s a good thing, really, for the Flames as they are in somewhat of a slump (if you can call two straight losses a slump, one of which was in a shootout).

POINTS LEADERS

FLAMES

Johnny Gaudreau — 67 GP, 31 G, 60 A, 91 PTS, +49
Matthew Tkachuk — 67 GP, 32 G, 51 A, 83 PTS, +42
Elias Lindholm — 67 GP, 34 G, 34 A, 68 PTS, +49

BLUES

Jordan Kyrou — 61 GP, 22 G, 40 A, 62 PTS, +8
Vladimir Tarasenko — 60 GP, 23 G, 35 A, 58 PTS, -3
Robert Thomas — 57 GP, 14 G, 41 A, 55 PTS, +5
[B]

Ah, memories. The last time the Flames played the Blues in Calgary, the locals pummelled them into submission by a 7-1 count on Jan. 24. Three nights later, the Blues beat the Flames 5-1 at St. Louis. Saturday’s matchup is their final regular-season meeting.

Fired-up Flames aim to bounce back vs. Blues

A possible prelude to the intensity the Flames (40-18-9, 89 points) expect for the clash may have emerged in Friday's practice. Veterans Blake Coleman and Erik Gudbranson got into a heated battle that required teammates to separate them.

Such scenes are more common over the course of a season than people expect, but to the Flames, it was a sign of players amping up their emotions before facing the Blues (37-20-10, 84 points).

"It's good," Calgary coach Darryl Sutter said. "It's a contact sport. We need some more guys like that. Those two guys that were banging each other around? Those are two bangers, right? We need some of them guys that are pillow-fighting to do a little bit of that."

The Flames, who have a five-point lead on the second-place Los Angeles Kings and six-point edge on the third-place Edmonton Oilers in the division standings, expect better of themselves following their latest outing.

Love your work on the GDT Cheese, thanks.

Looking at their stats, it's surprising St. Louis isn't doing better. Either way, big game and they need a big win.

Come on Flames, let's win this one! It's been a good season and they've accomplished making the playoffs so lets just keep it on the gas down the stretch here.

Go Flames!

The Hansons haven't brought the luck lately, so we try another classic:

And it's my oldest's birthday, so 12-0 Flames!

Any word on Kylington's injury and when he's projected to be back? Looks like he's not playing tonight if the projected lines are correct.

I really hope we're a little more energetic to start the game tonight. It feels like we haven't been coming out with a lot of energy the last few games even if, overall, we've played well.

Looks like carpenter just got the 4th line center job full time. Sucks about Kylington but imo we have the best 7th dman in the league stepping in .

Blues played last night and went to overtime, so the Flames better jump on them and get some goals anyway they can (ugly is okay)

Let’s get this team going now!

Would like to see some lineup changes to spark the offense, but need a win in regulation to boost their confidence.
