Is Johnny Gaudreau becoming the favorite for the Hart Trophy? Would be the first by a flames player.

Third in points and +49. I think that looks more impressive than Austin Matthews 48 goals.

Thoughts?

He's a finalist for sure, don't know about favourite.

Matthews, Shesterkin and Gaudreau are my finalists at the moment.

It’s often given to the leading scorer vs. The leagues most valuable player.

Hard to not pick Johnny based on actual most valuable IMO.

Unfortunately I think Johnny will have to play on the east coast to ever get the recognition required to win something like the Hart.

I know he hasn’t hit either target yet but +50 and over 100
Points since 89 (Mullen) has only been done 2 other times league wide - guys named Mario and forsberg

He’ll likely be a finalist but I don’t think he’ll win

2 Flames should be collecting major individual trophies, and one will be Darryl.

Shesterkin has fallen off a bit, now that he’s not having the greatest goalie season of all time.

To be fair, I haven’t watched much of Matthews, but I can’t see how any forward has been better than Gaudreau this season.

Gaudreau had 10 points in three games this week, and probably could have had at least 15 points. Just completely dominant. He’s on pace to have the most ES points by any player since Jagr in 95-96. The way he’s playing right now, he will have the most ES points by any player in the last 26 years, and will likely do it with a few games to spare.

A couple weeks ago, he was probably a lock to be a finalist, but not necessarily a favourite to win. Now I think he’s the favourite to win.

He has 10 more ES points this year than anyone else in the league.

ES points count for a lot in my book.

It's much, much tougher than piling up PP points.

I don't know what the Flames would be without Johnny, he needs to come back.

Bobby Orr scored 139 points and was +124 in 1970-71. Was the best season by a player ever. Truly fitting of the term dominant.

If I had to pick one forward to win it would be Johnny.

Josi, Shesterkin would be my other finalist picks and possibly Matthews if he manages to get to or very close to 60 goals.

We need to show Johnny some love in this town. Anyone with any billboard connections. Some for your consideration ads like the do in LA for Oscars?

Love to see him get it, but I think Darryl has him focusing on the most important trophy.

Hart would be cool. Conn Smythe would be cooler.

Two players in the top 30 for scoring have played less minutes /g than Gaudreau this season. Forsberg and Tkachuk iirc. Almost everyone in the top 20 has more pp time per game as well.

Mcdavid for example has 4 more total minutes and 2 more powerplay minutes, per game.

With the 5 even strength points last night, not only has Gaudreau further separated himself from the field (he is now 10 points ahead of Kaprisov), but he is now also on pace to post the highest even strength point total this millennium (in 2017/18, McDavid had 84 EVP).

Gaudreau needs 15 EVP in the last 17 games to eclipse McDavid, and post the highest EVP number in 26 years.

In 1995/96, Jagr had 95 EVP (19 more than 2nd place Nedved)

The all time record was 147 by Gretzky in 1981/82

Also of note, Gaudreau would be the 3rd Flame in the last 20 years to lead EVP points. Hudler led with 60 in 14/15 and Iginla had 78 in 01/02

If he reaches 85 and posts the highest number in 26 years, decisively leading his team to a division title, how does he not win the Hart?
