Rasmus is one of only 18 defensemen to have hit 40 points - turning into a #1

League wide the Flames are in 5th spot and right on the heels of the Toronto Maple Leafs for 4th.
Actually they passed the Leafs last night, but only into 6th.

However they are only 2 pts back of Pittsburgh for 4th overall with 2 games in hand....something they WILL rectify this evening...right?

With the Flames having a lot of team success this season his play has kind of flown under the radar. He's having a sneaky good season and is by far the team's leader in ice time by almost 2 minutes a game at 25 years old.

The coyotes broadcast was calling Andersson the most underrated defenseman in the league.

Still can't believe that 2015 draft.

Trade your 1st and 2 2nds for Hamilton, but still draft Andersson and Kylington in the second (moving up for Kylington), then pluck Mangiapane in the 6th.

Oh then trade Hamilton for the other 1st pairing defenseman and your 1st line center and future Selke winner.

Andersson leads by exactly 1.5 mins of ATOI. But I think one of the really significant things about Andersson's numbers is that he has actually played significantly low minutes for a #1 defenseman. The Flames are one of only four teams along with Boston, NYI and Seattle with not a single player averaging 23 mins of ice time. One of the great stories of this season has been the balance throughout the lineup.

Even though Edmonton drafted Connor McDavid 1st overall, you would have to say that Calgary had a much better draft. Incidentally the Oilers drafted three defencemen currently in the NHL in that draft--but none currently play for the Oilers (Caleb Jones, Ethan Bear, John Marino).

Ran some numbers ...

The Flames have the tightest standard deviation between their six defensemen of any team in the league.

Calgary
Islanders
Montreal
Philly
Anaheim

Interesting that Calgary is the only playoff team in that bunch, and the rest can pretty much just play everyone and let the season wind down.

That's a huge advantage.

On the other side ... wide standard deviation ...

Dallas
Ottawa
Edmonton
Nashville
St. Louis

He’s now 15th in all time flames defenceman scoring- the 2 guys right ahead of him (eloranta and rautakallio)- names from a different era for sure are the only 2 euros for him to surpass
