Default Anyone an Electrician?

Hey, I'm looking to become a residential electrician, and hoping someone on here is one already, who I could maybe talk to. [Just out of commercial (Hated it)]

If so, please PM me or reply. Thanks.

Why did you hate commercial Electrician? You make more money doing commercial. I heard from Journeymen at the company I do my apprenticeship for that if you're a Electrician and don't have a commerical background, that your basically pretty useless. One said that if you know commercial, residential comes very easy.

What company were you with before?

Have a look in the yellow pages and look under "electrical contractors". I know they have residential listings in their.

Also, were you ever indentured with the apprenticeship board? If you are, it would be alot easier finding someone to hire you. If not, and you haven't already quit you're other job, wait unitl you're with the apprenticeship board. Once you're reconized as a official apprentice electrician, you can basically find a job anywhere (I know this holds true for commercial). I'm going to assume it would also be that much easier if you choose to go the residential route.

I too would be interested in why you hate commercial. From commercial you can make the jump (once you are a journeyman) from commercial to residential or to industrial. If you take your apprenticeship residentially, you are pretty much stuck doing that forever. Maybe you need to just change employers.

It varies by companies, but generally anywhere from $30-$40 an hour.

Jayems, If you want my advice, I would stick to commercial until your atleast a journeymen. It will open up more opportunities for you in the future.

I was drilling inserts and mounting racks. All day every day. Installing conduit. 9hrs/day on a ladder. Everyone there was nice, but they did the same job, day in day out for 2 years, some 25 years. So, at least with residential, you are moving on to different things almost daily.

I am not with the company anymore. It wasn't the work that got me, i just couldn't see myself installing conduit for 25 years.

I really had my heart set out on residential, and took this job as an entrance. But now that im gone, i really want to look into residential to see if I would have the same feelings and not enjoy it... not to waste my time, or their time.

What company were you with? Were you street crew doing stop lights and street lights?

At my company, yes, you do have to deal with conduit and ****, but you may be at one job for a few months, than off to another. My company do Home Depots, new condos downtown, fish creak LRT station, SAIT campus ect. so you't end up doing the same thing all the time.

Mabe you should try a different company out. Remember too that when you start out, they tend to give the starters the ****ty work.
