To meet the cap floor, I’m guessing. 2 more years on his contract after this one.

That'll help them hit the 5000 seat capacity in their new barn....

Looks like Coyotes are taking all the college draft picks that want to go to UFA rather than sign with their original drafting team

I wonder what its like to cheer for a team like Arizona that doesn't even try to be competitive half of the time.

I'm sure if you offered to buy their fan a beer or two, he'd let you know.

I'm hoping Arizona keeps room for salary dumps of Lucic and/or Monahan in the off season. It seems like the only way the Flames can sign their big players.

How many of these types of deals have the Coyotes absorbed over the years? Seems like drafting hasn't been good enough for this organization as they really don't have a lot to show for drafting a lot in the top half of the first round over the last decade and accumulating a lot of picks for LTIR players.

Should this go in the e=ng thread? Perhaps the timeline is too short.

Hmmm. This is what Friedman said might happen. Sign with the Coyotes and you get to start playing meaningful minutes right away to get your career going.

I am surprised there is no mention of Phil Kessel this whole weekend. I would have thought that the Coyotes can get a couple good prospects and a bunch of picks from him.

Difficult for most contenders to fit him in cap wise

With a salary of 1M (0.85M to the Coyotes), while I'm sure the Yotes are reluctant to retain, it would cost them relatively nothing to reduce his cap hit to 3.4M (Leafs already retaining some from the Pens trade).

Don't see a reason a team like the Rangers wouldn't at least inquire.
