Flames 6 Devils 3
Flames 6 Devils 3
- Flames acquire Jarnkrok before the game and create a buzz
- That creates a roster bubble that creates a great fourth line of Dube, Ritchie and Lucic who all score goals
- Top line quietly goes off for five more scoring points
- How fun is this?

Re: your point about the "Top Line Night Off" I think Kelly Hrudy made those comments before Johnny's empty net goal which gave 3 points for the line (Lindholm & Tkachuk assists). But still great to see scoring from the bottom of the lineup! LOOOOOOOOOCH!

Tkachuk’s points came on the ENG, springing Dube, and his own goal, which IIRC wasn’t with the top line all there either. So it wasn’t really a top line thing for him.

Great analysis as always, Bingo. Thanks!
I'm gonna go on a limb and say that having two lines that you can't categories as either a second line or a third line is great. The obvious reason being that both lines can be counted for offensive contributions and solid defensive way. That is the Sutter way.

"This in a season that if you forced me to wager big on the team I’d bet on selling before buying."
I'm with you there, Bingo. After losing Gio with nothing to show for it, I entered this season with a total Meh mindset about the Flames. I didn't want to get too invested in what I assumed would be a team struggling for a playoff spot.
This season is amazing for many reasons, one of which being my relatively low expectations compared to previous seasons.
In Sutter we trust!

A lot of people thought they were a bubble team, but a lot of us (maybe more?) thought they were top 2 in the division - certainly better than a bubble team. But NO ONE imagined they would be this good.
Acquisitions last year: Markstrom, Tanev
Acquisitions this year: Coleman, Gudbranson, Zadorov, Lewis, Vladar, Toffoli, Jarnkrok
Wow!
IMO, Treliving deserves as much credit as Sutter. And no one is a bigger Sutter fan than me!

I thought they were top 2 or 3 last season in the CDN division. After that debacle my confidence was severely shaken. I started to get an optimistic vibe as this season approached but I certainly didn't think they would be this good. They're currently 6th overall and should be a little higher than that based on their play.

Fun to see the Flames are now 19-5-5 at home when at the beginning of the season, the worry was they were so much better on the road.

Yeah some rough puck luck early ... their home metrics were way better than their road metrics when they were 4-4-4 on home ice.

They are now the #1 home team in terms of xGF% 5 on 5, and 6th in points percentage. And a very flat PDO, not doing it with mirrors.
8th in xGF% and 10th in points percentage on the road. Road shooting percentage way down at 23rd, save percentage 4th ... PDO flat again.

Their home stands were not even stands back then - often one gamers. They were so disjointed and irregular, I didn't put much stock in the record.
