Saturday’s out-of-town guests arrive without a couple of their top offensive talents. Tyler Bertuzzi, currently second on the team scoring charts, is unvaccinated and can’t cross the border without a 14-day quarantine, while Robby Fabbri suffered a knee injury in Minnesota and will likely miss the remainder of the season.
Game notes: It is hockey night in Canada as the Red Wings visit the Calgary Flames. These two teams enter the Saturday night showdown from opposite directions. The Flame are 7-2-1 in their past ten games. Meanwhile, the Red Wings are 3-6-1 in the same 10-game span.
While the skating stars know any mid-season declaration of look-out-here-we-come would put a scowl on Darryl Sutter’s face, even they must be daydreaming about what this crew could be capable of come playoff time.
It’s been pure dominance for Calgary when facing off with Detroit lately. Calgary is 8-2 in their last 10 meetings with the Red Wings, while averaging just under four goals a game. The Flames have also won the last five bouts played in Calgary. Saturday’s the final of two regular season meetings between these clubs; Calgary shut out Detroit 3-0 back on October 21.
The Flames remain one of the hottest teams in the NHL with wins in 15 of their last 18 appearances. Calgary’s lost just five games in regulation at home this season too.

You would think....but we are talking Darryl Sutter here.
I too hope he goes in that direction but will not be surprised by any combination which includes Vladar winning tonight and going right back to him...or Markstrom doing the same thing.
I can't say I love the scheduling. Washington gets 2 days off prior to playing Calgary on a second of a back to back, and now the Avs get the same thing. Flames will hopefully finish this game with as little fatigue as possible.

If I am Sutter, I would start Markstrom tonight and throw Vladar to the wolves again in Colorado tomorrow.
He won there last week and there is zero reason to show them Markstrom in my opinion. Tomorrow will be a huge Challenge, give Vladar the chance to beat them again.

Having to travel and play in Denver tomorrow is the reason for this. No way you want to play this game at 8 and be playing in Denver tomorrow at 6. This way they might get to their hotel by Midnight.
Can't remember too many times where the Flames play at home on Saturday and a Sunday road game that isn't in Edmonton or Vancouver.
