Default Flames 3 Avalanche 2 (OT)

Flames 3 Avalanche 2 (OT)

- All three top line members get three points
- Gaudreau with the overtime winner
- Dan Vladar with the win
- Great statement game

Gaudreau 4th,
Tkachuk 10th
Lindholm 20th

in league scoring - pretty good for a team with no elite players

Loved everything about that game. Two more vs. Colorado this month and then a conference final ?

BTW... Monahan looked like he tried to pass to Tkachuk on that play (who was wide open for a sure goal), but Monahan fanned on the pass.

It happens.

That or he froze and the puck went of his stick.

Makes me think he's completely lost his offensive confidence when I see plays like that and the number of times he's hit crests on jerseys with shots in the last month.

Johnny Gaudreau probably should have shot the puck when he got it, and honestly I don’t know what Sean Monahan was doing when he took the Gaudreau pass.
IMO it was a microcosm of everything wrong with him this year.

He is trying to think about how to play the game instead of just playing the game.

In years past he would get a puck on his stick and boom...it was gone. Now, and this includes every aspect of his game at this point, he takes that extra millisecond to think about what he is going to do instead of just doing it. It happens in his passing, in his shooting and even when deciding to turn up or back down the ice.

Obviously he isn't the same physically as he was but his issues are far bigger between the ears which is affecting every other part of his game. His effort is there, but not much else. The one spot where thinking before proceeding works is in the circle, and his FO% is pretty damn good.

No idea if its fixable at this point because its apparent how deep into his own head he has gotten, but he looks like a guy who is tracking to be done at the NHL level beyond being a bit player.

Yeah, his confidence is shot for sure.

There was one angle of the play where you could see the follow through of his stick better, and it really looked like he was trying to direct it to Tkachuk.

Also, if he makes that pass, and Tkachuk scores (easily), no one is criticizing Johnny for not shooting

Should be less late game stories going forward ... my daughter lost her game last night so I'm officially retired as a minor hockey coach!

Such a rewarding journey. Sad but amazing to see your daughter crying in the last ten seconds because it's over ... playing hockey meant a lot to her (both of us). Met a lot of amazing people over the last 15 years, and wouldn't change a thing.

Time to rest ....

Let yourself recharge so that you can come out of retirement and coach your grandkids.

Great write up. Especially the whiney crowd in Denver. Sounded like a Montreal home game.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Gaudreau – Lindholm – Tkachuk 62.6%
Mangiapane – Backlund – Coleman 64.5%
Lucic – Monahan – Toffoli 37.5%
Dube – Lewis – Ritchie NA

Hanifin – Andersson 58.5%
Kylington – Tanev 58.5%
Zadorov – Gudbranson 59.1%
Our top two lines carried the team. We need to figure out a way to weaponize our 3rd line, because even though we won - we showed that when playing on the road the opposition can target our bottom-6 and stay in games (and likely win games in a series). You can have a 4th line that gets targeted, but when both of your bottom 6 lines get targeted and dominated you are going to lose some important games.

That should be Treliving's goal leading into the deadline. He has to add to the bottom 6. It shouldn't be too hard to do either as there will be plenty of players available who can provide strong bottom 6 minutes (or go overkill and get Hertl...). In the mean time, I hope we see Dube - Monahan - Toffoli reunited.

As good as Lindholm has been this year (and in recent years), last night is when it really landed for me. He is a top end centre in this league.

Yeah that's the plan.

It's been a wild year with the layoff, new job, now we're selling our house and moving so that takes up a boatload of my time.

Hockey done, and off my plate but I'll miss it.

I don't have an issue with Gaudreau's pass on the play that led to the tying goal. It didn't look good as it was developing but ultimately it led to a A+ scoring chance for Monahan. Unfortunately to say he's fighting it would be an understatement. You can't say that Sutter hasn't given him plenty of opportunities to work his way out of it this year. Tons of ice time on PP1 with the best players on the team until recently.

Agreed wholeheartedly. He tried to back door Chucky for the tap in. Bouncing puck bounced.

It happens.

Not sure but the pass from behind the net might have ticked the stick of the diving Av and made it bounce just a bit.

That said, the goalie was on that side so maybe a straight shot doesn’t score anyway.

We all focus on individual plays like that, me as much as anyone (actually more so) but it’s not a good way to analyze a game or even a player. Nothing’s worse than “X has to bury that”. If a player buried every shot that according to fans they had to bury they’d score 70 goals.
