Icon45 Coyotes trade Lyubushkin and Dzingel to Leafs for Nick Ritchie and conditional pick

per friedman the Coyotes can choose between Toronto's 2023 3rd or 2025 2nd

Sure, why not. He's the only decent player they have, may as well fully destroy the franchise and trade him away.

Waiting on a Chychrun move soon as well.

Like WTF, why even have a team anymore?

To see if they can sell out a college rink.

I'm sure Arizona will be getting a pick out of this. Lyubushkin isn't that good and I think Ritchie + 2nd for Lyubushkin would be a fair trade that would fulfil the needs of both sides.

They gave up two pending UFAs, took on a guy who they might be able to flip next year, and got a second-rounder for the trouble.

Seems fine to me

Okay, Bradley, get something done around Kessel for Ritchie and reunite the brothers in Arizona.

Literally Arizona is crap. I am not sure the NHL knows how bad this franchise continues to make them look. Move them already.

You do know that franchises aren't the NHL's property to move around as it likes, right?

Actually, the board of directors can force an owner to sell. So essentially yes, they can.

That's been done in the NBA, but not in the NHL to the best of my knowledge. Are you sure the NHL's franchises are granted on the same basis? Have you looked at the legal documents?

I'm not sure why such a relatively meaningless deal like this is the impetus to rehash this same tired Coyotes discussion in yet another thread. Can we not just discuss the on-ice ramifications of this specific trade?

Here is what the hockey writers wrote when it looked like the Sens needed a new owner.

The 2nd being in 2025 is odd in most cases. That is still 4 drafts away. Plus most 2nd rounders take an additional 3 years to play in the NHL.

But when you consider that the Coyotes look to have 3 first rounders and 5 2nd rounders in the 2022 draft, and 3 2nd rounders in the 2024 draft. Pushing picks to later drafts make sense. Can only have so many developing at one time.
