Default Point and shoot camera

Afternoon CP.
Our almost 4 year old daughter has given a strong business case that she is done with her first camera and ready for the next step up. She is pretty careful with her things and I think would be ready for a point and shoot. Looks like the base level are around $200 and I think that might be a little steep for what she needs. Thoughts on used options? Are there any other base level point and shoots that are cheaper? Or do we just bite the bullet and get the $200 one…haha. Thanks in advance!

There must be an endless supply of these things sitting in people's junk drawers or for cheap on Kijiji, isn't there? Canon always had good ones.

Well what is your intention for what comes out?

You want to be able to see these off the small camera screen?
You want a phone to be able to send these to friends / family? - refer to gordonblue
You want to be able to plug into a TV to watch?
You want to take an SD card to a computer to look at pics?
You want RAW images to edit?

I have an old Panasonic point and shoot that my now 5 year old likes to play with.

It has drop protection so it can survive a 6 foot drop? Something like that.

I'm genuinely surprised at the price of new Panasonic Lumix cameras on Amazon.

Like another poster said, check Kijiji, Facebook Marketplace or eBay for a Panasonic Lumix camera. If it's drop/waterproof all the better. It'll survive accidental drops and getting wet.

I didn't see any of those on Kijiji for Calgary. That said this is one of my favorite cameras ever

But if you find a drop proof Lumix I'd go with that due to age and likilood of dropping.

We are currently doing a purge and have a used Samsung ES17-12.2 MP camera. Really simple entry level camera with a small case with a strap. It’s yours if you want it. No charge.
