Default Brett Ritchie, why?

Making this thread now so it doesn’t sound like whining after a maybe loss (but i think the Flames have this one).

Why is Brett Ritchie on this team? He offers nothing to this roster. He can’t pass, he can’t shoot, and he cant even skate fast enough to hit anyone.

He’s a total black hole. Mangiapane and Dube may as well be playing on the PK at 5v5 right now.

I know functional toughness is the hardest thing to find in the NHL but Ritchie is not functional. Toughness is needed, but there’s still a hockey game to be played.

It feels like the team is literally sabotaging itself by giving him ice time.

I know Lucic is on the team because he’s not James Neal but damn if these two don’t seem completely redundant with each other.

It’s the coaches.

On the 4th line Ritchie had been good.

Then they try to play him up the lineup and he’s horrible.

He's a replacement level player with attractive tools.

What's the old saying? If you're small you have to prove you can play, if you're big you have to prove you can't?

Because Phillips didn’t do much in training camp.

But his role isn't a middle 6 forward.

Nothing wrong with Ritchie - he does exactly what is expected of him.

But he should be on the 4th line. He is ineffective higher up in the lineup, but that isn't his fault.

Ritchie is a serviceable 4th liner, should never play higher than that in the lineup.

This is the definition of not a knee jerk thread. Ritchie was not especially terrible tonight. No mistakes leading to a goal against, no idiot penalties. Just his usual brand of getting nothing accomplished. He can’t take a pass, and can’t make one either. Why is Mangiapane carrying this anvil around?

He's no Hathaway. I agree with most that he is an adequate 4th liner. Should be playing less minutes imo and not with mangipane or dube . Flames have been running 4 lines pretty consistently but I'm sure that's just to keep us fresh for the stretch run and playoffs. At least he isn't on the 1st line, seriously that was weird .

You can have one Ritchie on the team, problem is the Flames have at least 3. And yeah he doesn’t belong on the top 9

We should be able to form a decent enough middle six with Mangiapane, Dube, Coleman, Backlund, Monahan and Pitlick.

He's a player that can easily be replaced by the acquisition of a Vitaly Kravstov. Eas.ily.

Not even sure I like ritchie as a 4th liner. He’s more of a 13th forward in my eyes

This honestly may be the least deep roster we've had since 2017-ish.

And yet I think I have more optimism than most of those years because we have a real coach.

Ritchie is actually a decent skater with some good wheels. Would be okay if on the 4th line. But he rarely ever throws a big hit and fails to really intimidate the other teams. Don’t need him to fight but would sure be nice if he would get involved once in awhile after the whistle. So when Richardson is back healthy who sits?

It's amazing they outplay the other team every game considering how many bad players they have

32 team league...I think some of you need to check some rosters
