Memory Express Question
I bought the main componants (M-board, processor, case, basically everything but HD and DVD-R) of my PC from them in August, and just had to take it back to them with a faulty motherboard. Since I got the computer back on Thursday, it's had nothing but problems. I didn't do anything to it until I tried to re-format, and now windows won't even try to install on it. It crashes every time, and I've even tried two different windows xp disks...
So here's my question. I can't prove that there weren't problems before, but since I got it back from the shop, I figure it was something they did to fry my HD. I did buy it used from a fellow CPer, but obviously not covered by them. Do I have a leg to stand on to try and get them to replace my hard drive?
I know without proof I probably don't, but I'm sure someone here has gone through this same ordeal, or heard of someone. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would just take it back in, tell them the problem they will probably do what they can, I have always had good service at ME.
I doubt your HDD is fried, it's being a typical computer lol I had to go into the bios setup and remove the drives, and let windows setup detect them, and kept it that way before my new pc would run. I also had to unplug my other drives til i was done installing and now it works.. PC's are real bitches sometimes.

On a related note. After fiddling with everything on my computer for over a year I realized that my Ram was faulty. I bought Kingston 512 from Memory Express. I hear Kingston has a lifetime warranty, however I have no receipt. Do you think that ME has my purchase on file and that they will honour the faulty RAM?

If it's a year ago they should have the RAM on file; they record all serial numbers and such on purchases now.
Not sure if they'll do it or not after one year though, you might have to deal directly with Kingston.

Memory Express was awesome when I lost my receipt. If you paid credit or debit then it's super easy for them to look it up. Best thing is have a quick look at you bank records so you can tell them the exact day, and the amount.

Try to diagnose the problem yourself first, then you can give yourself a leg to stand on. Download some harddrive diagnostic tools onto a floppy and scan your harddrive. I doubt that the drive is fried, might be some other problems. At what point during install does it crash?

Another odd hard drive diagnostic; have you tried installing the O/S with the computer plugged into a plug that is on a different circuit in your house?
I was having HD issues once, and somebody suggested that to me. Turned out there wasn't enough amperage going to the plug I was using.

Mem Express has everyting you bought on file if you use the same phone number. They are excellent with warranty returns as they will handle that for you. I recently had a SATA HD go on me from Bcom (6 months old) and I had to deal with Seagate myself. 35$ Brockerage UPS fees later I got my $100 HD, now I have to pay to send mine back.
Last time I ever buy anythign from Bcom. Plus CoCo Brooks is next to them in the NE, its a good reason to drive there on a weekend.
