Default WJC 2022 day 1! 4 games!

4 games today!

Finland vs Germany 12 noon

Russia vs Sweden 2:30

Czechia vs Canada 5:00

USA vs Slovakia 7:30

Should be some pretty good matchups. Finland should destroy Germany, and Canada should comfortably beat the Czechs but the other games should be solid! That being said, this tournament is always unpredictable!

USA vs Slovakia will probably be the most interesting game. Slovakia is bringing some very talented draft eligibles who probably aren’t quite ready to dominate this level, and USA of course has Coronato who should be in the top 6 in all situations.

What the heck else is there to do when it’s -30! Games should run pretty much non stop from noon to 10 pm.

I am going to the Centrium in red deer for a double header.

Should be fun to watch Coronato in person. I'll make sure to rep the Flames!

This will be the first live hockey I've watched since 2019...

Oof. Not a great goal, even though tipped. I don’t know why the German goalie was moving so hard to his right and not just being big in the net.

How do the Flames only have 1 prospect in the entire tournament?

God TSN has turned to garbage!! Most of the World Junior hockey games being aired on TSN 3, 4 and 5 so not available to most basic cable subscribers. What will be show on TSN 1 and 2, you ask? How about American college football on TSN 1 and plays of the month on TSN 2. Now it’s not a problem for me as I have the sports package. But my Dad who is in a care home, would love to watch the world juniors but he can’t get that package in the home. Goddamn money grab by TSN! They did the same thing with many CFL games this year bumping CFL games to TSN 3, 4 and 5 in favour of frigging American football and highlight shows. It’s disgraceful programming choices and whoever is making those decisions for TSN needs to be fired YESTERDAY!!!

The camera is really low in Red Deer. It's like being in the first 5 rows.

Interesting camera location for play by play of the Russia Sweden game. About row 8 or so.

Michkov with a goal? That's a very bizarre call

Has to be because of the penalty on the play. Sweden knocked down the Russian player who took the net off but the puck would have crossed the line.

I think it’s a stupid call but not exactly sure of the rules.

Michkov is going to be a super star. I think he’s got as much as Bedard but likely will go 2nd or 3rd because he’s signed so long

Edit: right on cue

yeah, the puck was last touched by the goalie, and the puck was going in if the net hadn't been knocked off. And the player was knocked into the post.

And another goal. 4-3 now

I'm not 100% sure of the rules there either. Initially the ref did call a 2 min penalty for crosschecking on Sweden

if you've only seen Askarov at the 3 WJC tournaments, you would not think he was a top end goalie prospect
