Default Calgary Beef: NHL Team Height and Weight Rankings 2021

James Mirtle's ever popular NHL age, size, and nationality breakdowns by team (Athletic subscription required)

https://theathletic.com/2930108/2021...d-nationality/

The Flames are currently the 2nd tallest and 7th heaviest team in the league. This is a trend that has been going on for a few years and accelerated in the new Sutter era. For all this team's faults, at least I won't have to read about how small and soft they are anymore (not that I ever thought those were the big issues).

Not the tallest or heaviest.
We're never the best at anything.

Kind of irrelevant when all that size is just skewed by bottom of the roster bad contracts like Lucic and Zadorov and Monahan.

The top of your roster is what wins you games.

Johnny Gaudreau leads this team in 5v5 points, followed by Andrew Mangiapane.
6'0" 180lb Oliver Kylington is third.

Tell that to the guy in the corner with Gudbranson!

Any player on the ice playing 15 or more minutes with size is an issue and shouldn't be discounted when you're comparing teams by size and weight.

Ah yes, Gudbranson is the reason the Flames are good this year.

Would you rather we still had bottom of the roster bad contract James Neal instead?

Calgary Beef would low key be a pretty good team name

This isn't basketball. In hockey, the ENTIRE roster is what wins you games.

Like it or not, he’s been a reason. No player is THE reason

The flames, on the whole being:
1. Heavier
2. Faster
3. Better conditioned
4. Way better coached

Is why they are better this season. IMO.

Man you're a grumpy one.

When the hell did I say that?

I'm saying he's on the ice 15 minutes a game and he's big. If you're measuring teams with size he's an issue. He doesn't have to be in the top pairing to matter when looking at size.

CP: We just get manhandled in the playoffs, we'll never win with these small forwards!
Also CP: Who cares about size? Small forwards win you games!

At a glance those have no correlation with how well the team is doing.

Which isn't a new observation.

Are they skewing St Louis' weight because they accidently forgot to delete Keith Tkachuk out of the system after all these years?

yeah to me it's not that far off from evaluating players based on hair or eye color. but from the moment a player is drafted until their career ends, their height and weight will always be quoted as part of the analysis by hockey personnel, media, and fans...probably because it's just a lot easier to quantify than skill and tenacity which are really the only measures that count.

We may not be the tallest, or heaviest but we aren't the ugliest....like some team up north where you'd have to lather your kid up with peanut butter just to get the dog to play with ya ugly.

I like the beef we have on this team ....but I like the jam our smaller players have regardless ....because they are fast and have little powerful engines that make them go.

We really haven't anything to complain about this year.

Great start
Playing with pace
Unfinished business
