Stone is drawing in per Brendan Parker.
Slap to the face for Zadorov

Wow. That’s unexpected. Maybe Zadorov is not pulling his weight in practice

I'm thinking this is Kylington's chance to shine under pressure:
Kylington-Tanev
Zadorov-Andersson
Valimaki-Gudbranson
In that order. No way you put Zadorov on the top pair. I'd put him on the third pair, but Zadorov-Gudbranson scares me.
EDIT: And… Zadorov still out, while I was typing. I still think Kylington-Tanev may be the de facto #1 pair tonight.
Kylington-Tanev is so much more than the sum of its parts. Individually, neither one of those guys is a #1 D, but the way they play together, they look like they could be a #1 pairing in the near future. They may get the chance to test that tonight.

Am I ever glad we only handed him a 1-year deal, some of terms CP was throwing around was for 3-5 years.
I wonder if there is something more to not slotting in Zadorov?

I thought they were saying on the fan that he didn't skate this morning, so not entirely sure.

Stone was super dependable down the stretch last season. I am looking forward to him getting a shot.
Zadorov will draw back in at some point, but he is such a high risk player, I don't think putting him in at the tail end of a long road trip is ideal. They have to play perfect road hockey tonight. Keep it simple and limit scoring chances against. With Zadorov (in theory), you get an extra physical presence, but you are also going to give up a couple more chances. Probably not ideal against a team like the Pens who aren't that physical, but very opportunistic on their chances.

Powerplay Quarterback

This is a huge blow, Hanifin is the glue of this defense as constructed. I underestimated Hanifin after the trade but he's really looking good lately. Asking Valimaki or kylington to step up is not even fair to them but they have no choice.

Going with a righty over Zadorov is shocking
Unless he is nursing something the org is not very happy/impressed with him to go with Stone here

I think Sutter's logic is that none of the bottom 5 D distinguished themselves(his words after 2 games), so he gives everyone the opportunity to do it. He gave one to Zadorov he didn't take advantage of it. He gave one to Kylington, and he looked good. Gudbranson with Valimaki also looked good.
Hope Stone makes the most of it!

Yeah, Sutter said early in the season, or maybe just after camp, that all the D would be playing.
