They have to do something about that. I can't see how they can round out their roster with quality depth with that much money sunk into 5 players. IMO they don't have a franchise goaltender so I don't know how they are going to address that one.

I think they will look at moving Matthews at year end. He is a UFA in 1 yr following higher season and there is no way he is going to stay in Toronto.

Basically the same situation as Tkachuk and the Flames. He's going to likely have to be moved as well.

If he's not part of the Eichel package, maybe a signed Tkachuk for 8 years to the blues for a Tarasenko and a couple of firsts.

Matthews seems to really enjoy playing in Toronto and as long as they stay competitive between now and the end of his contract, I'm betting on him staying with them.

If the Flames could sign Tkachuk to 8 years they probably would. We don't really know if that's what he wants.

How can they afford him? That's a mistake IMO. Too much locked up on 5 guys. Very hard to be competitive.

of the big 5 contracts, Matthews is the last player they should consider moving. Best, youngest, plays most important position, and he has 2 more years remaining on his contract after this season

I think the Leafs will move Marner when they find the right deal that brings in a top 6 forward and a legit top 4 d.

Dubas got a good deal from this. He's going to be the same for the next 6 years or so I'd think, and by that time his cap hit won't be too bad. They needed to lock up a dman, and he's the best one they have. Can't say he's a franchise player but they needed him.

I think he might be one of those over rated Leafs who wouldn't have anywhere near the hype on another team
