What is the right price for Eichel?
Everyone seems to want Eichel, and there’s definitely some media smoke. But I haven’t seen any big media types propose what the package would be.
If Eichel gets traded to the Flames, what do you think the price would be? What do you think it should be? How much is too much? Do you want anybody else from Buffalo in the deal? Will it be a three way?
I’m personally strongly against including anybody in the top 9 or top 4, which obviously ups the futures price.
Merge this into the trade rumours thread if needed but this is worthy of a thread, just for posterity at least if it actually happens.

There has to be some salary going back, and including a C makes sense. So:
Monahan
Valimaki
Pelletier (or Zary)
1st
If the 1st is protected, then an additional 2nd would be okay too

The hf rumour of Monahan, Zary, Dube/Mangi, 1st isn't crazy at all.
So long as IF it comes down to one of those two, it's Dube.
Keeping Pelletier and Coronato is ideal to me.

Monahan and Zadorov for cap purposes.
If Buffalo wants futures, as a fan, I would be willing to pay a high price. Eichel is elite, and I think he could push this team over the top.
Zary or Coronato, 1st 2022, 2nd 2022 (whichever is best), Valimaki
I feel like that's a decent package? Maybe I'm way off?

I think anything more than a first, a conditional 1st (injuries and health) and Mangiapane is all they could ever hope for.

Four pieces
Monahan
One of Dube or Valimaki
One of Zary/Pelletier/Corronato
1st round pick
Give them the option to substitute a 2nd round pick for any of the players or prospects.
Mangiapane is firmly above Dube and no longer comparable.
Something close to that is what I’m comfortable giving up.

I want to see at least $2M retained by Buffalo. Either that, or you're going to have to manage your expectations on the return.

We're close except I would rather see Pelletier gone way before Dube.
Monahan
Zary
Pelletier>>>Dube>>>>>>>>>>>Mangiapane
1st this year

Think it has to be Dube to make the money work.
I'd bet on Pelletier being as good as Dube at this level in relatively short order.

Wouldn't Eichel being on LTIR for the majority of the season allow us to keep Dube? I haven't ran the numbers but with cap space accruing every day I'd assume 10 mil in space for the majority of the season we would be ok.

I thought that you don't accrue cap space from a player on LTIR, you get to replace the cap space that player would have taken up. Once the player is able to return then you have to get cap compliant... or hope you're good enough to wait for said LTIR player to come back for Game 1 of the playoffs....

I personally don’t think the difference between a question mark Monahan and a question mark Eichel is 3 good pieces (Dube/Mangiapane/Valimaki/Pelletier types). I think at most if Monahan is in the deal it’s one of those pieces, a first, a second, and a B prospect.
So Monahan, Valimaki, 2022 first, Florida’s second and Mathias Emilio Pettersen.
I’d way rather add more futures if you could swap Monahan out for Lucic+Futures.

I’m against an overpay. It should be way below his market price pre injury. Way, way below. Until he’s proven healthy, he has little value and is on a massive contract. I don’t like trading for magic beans.
Monahan, 1st and a prospect for Eichel with a ton retained, at least 30%. He’s too much of a risk.

The point isn't the difference, it's the top end.
We're seeking Eichel's top end here. Those other guys are good pieces, but often times that one great piece does a lot more for you than a few good ones. None of them will elevate a team or put a team on their shoulders. And that's the point of putting that bundle towards that elite C.
Sabres aren't taking our garbage for their former franchise player.

I don't believe Buffalo wants Tkachuk.
I would rather trade Tkachuk to the highest bidder, or to a team that could give us a decent first-round pick and decent prospects. That way we could recoup any picks, prospects lost to Buffalo. If we could get Monahan, Tkachuk off the books this team would have some room to make improvements and pay the guys working hardest on the team.
