Color me very surprised.

Actually makes me think getting Matt extended here in Calgary could be possible after all.

As long as we show him the money it was always possible.

I'm pretty surprised TBH, thought for sure he would want a short term deal

I imagine Matthew is going to want more than that, so hopefully he plays like he's worth it this year!

This was the right move for Brady. Brings him to UFA and guarantees that his children's children will be wealthy. Will be 29 signing his next contract.

The Tkachuks remain undefeated in contract negotiations.

Much better work than Treliving's bridge deal with Matthew. Not dumping Frolik and doing that bridge deal was just bad work on Tree's front, especially with the fact that we later dumped Frolik for a 4th. It would have been better to pay a 3rd or a 4th or something if needed to get rid of Frolik and get Tkachuk under contract long term.

I think it shows that for most players as long as they get the term and the money, they are pretty happy to sign. I huge contract for a player that hasn't produced big numbers yet, but what is the real alternative for Ottawa.

Our Tkachuk has produced much bigger numbers, but it does indicate to me that if we overpay him as well, he might well sign.

I consider this posituve news.

WE alkso have no idea what parameters Trev was operating under. We have zero idea if Matthew was open to a long term deal.

Could you imagine being 22 and being handed a guaranteed 57.5 million? Must be a good feeling.

Steinberg on the radio mentioned that the Tkachuk camp never entertained more than 5 years during the negotiation. Also that summer was when Marner signed for 10.6 for 6 and RFA deals were going crazy. Chucky would be over $10M right now if he had a 7 year deal

Gives me hope a deal can be made long term for Matt, and he becomes the captain long term.

Yeah, my impression was that the term was the only way to fit him under that cap at the time.
