Don't know much about the decision or the applicable law, but I'm assuming this verdict requires a finding that Jones doesn't genuinely believe anything he is saying on the subject? That's probably correct.
There isn't much information in the story, other than the parents were suing for defamation. In that case, it doesn't really matter if he believed it or not. It is stating something as fact that is untrue (ie. not opinion), and which causes damage to the aggrieved person.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Nope. It's a default judgment. It doesn't require any finding at all. Jones was in default of his obligations to comply with procedural steps in the litigation so he just automatically loses. No issues need to be determined. You lose. Good day sir.

It was always going to go this way and will continue this way.
During his custody hearing he had to get his lawyer to tell the judge that he only plays a persona and he doesn't actually believe the things he says. "He plays a character" in his own words. Which was a majour point for his sons mother to say he was an unfit parent. 9nce he had to say that it did and was speculated at the time it opened him up to a TON of other suits.
I don't think its any surprise that Jones plays a character and probably doesn't believe anything that he says. He's a pure capitalist, we see it everywhere. Frankly when PT Barnum said "There is a fool born every minute", it wasn't some philosophical waxing, but a handbook. Conspiracy theory nuts will buy anything. Go to any convention. If I make an anti-subdermal bug detector that actual does nothing, I'll make a fortune. Write a book on 9/11 and the Jews, my bank account will well. We see this kind of fringe capitalism in everything, all you need to do is make a wild piece of fiction up (Loose Change was originally a movie script". Throw some names and accusations in it, and maybe a secretive group like the free masons, or Bilderberg or whatever its called. Talk about wild orgies at their meetings and profit.
