Insane contract. Far too much money for a bridge.

EDIT: I missed the under sign but unless it's significantly under it's bad. They should have been going for 6x9M.

Basically the Tkachuk special plus an extra ~$1 million. I wonder what the QO will be?

The better comparable is Barzal, who signed for 3x7, having scored more points than Pettersson in those first three years without getting injured (Pettersson has never had a healthy season), and being the #1C and main skill player on a team that's made the conference finals in back to back years now (Pettersson is surrounded by far more skill and if not for COVID may well have missed the playoffs all three years).

Ridiculous contracts being handed out. A 3 year deal should have got him $6.5 max.

Dude can't even score unless it's the pp.

Career high PPG. This is a common stat you like to reference when evaluating players.

How about career numbers?

Pettersen’s career PPG: .95

Tkachuk career PPG: .8

EP plays a premium position and has an all-world skill set that’s well suited to the modern game.

Not close for me which player I’d take to build my team around.

Elias Pettersson is the goods. Was hoping he would hold out into the regular season.

He has also never played a full season because he is 90lbs

Wait and see on this one...next contract is 11+ if he is as good as some of you think. Should have gone long term if that's the case, it's not like the Canucks are going to win anything in the next 3 seasons.

Exactly. Yet to see if he can sustain his compete level (or health) for 82 games, but dude is lethal - terrific skater, playmaker and shooter who does everything at top speed and sees the ice as well as anyone. There’s no one on the flames I wouldn’t trade for him 1 for 1.

Of course, long term was likely not available.

The kid has a body like ET, he also has never shown a good ability to be elusive enough to stay away from being smoked, not likely he’ll stay healthy.
