This trade seems extremely slanted in favor of Nashville. I’d like to give a chance to hear the reasoning behind this move by the two GMs (especially Detroit), before voting.

Voting no.

Seguins contract is pretty great and while Johnson’s isn’t good, he’s a good callup option.

Swayman looked great in his cup of coffee but goalies are weird and I’m not sold after 10 games. Stanley is alright but he won’t be more than a 3rd pairing dman imo. Studnicka is also decent but it’s Tyler seguin

I can understand the need for Detroit to rebuild their AHL club, and have a future there, but Johnson is also already demoted, and is essentially a buried contract, making him a bit of a non-entity in the trade instead of negative value to even things out. Detroit could get the same result (of moving Johnson and freeing up space) just by carefully releasing AHL players with no future, and letting the clock run out on Johnson.

I see what was starting to go on here, but the trade needs to be redone. Johnson makes it look like something that it is not, and should be excluded.

If Detroit is paying full freight for Seguin's contract, that has to be taken into consideration as well.

Johnson gone and the cheese gone, I think you would have gotten more 'yeses', so that value discrepancy needs to be taken care of. All of the bits that are essentially not the core of the trade.

We are headed to a no decision....any suggestions on what to be added or removed ? We both want the players involved, but I could certainly live without Johnson.

To me the deal needs a pretty big change. Detroit is one of the weakest organizations asset wise - so if they are trading one of their only valuable pieces they need to be getting something that has value or potential value.

So for me that would look like a deal with less pieces, but at least one better asset going back to Detroit. Most of the time this would involve a good pick or prospect, but Nashville lacks that. So I'd be looking at scenarios where a player like Reinhart is involved.

To me something like

Team: Nashville Predators

- Sam Reinhart
- Stanley, Logan (D) AHL
Swayman, Jeremy (G) NHL
Team: Detroit Red Wings

- Seguin, Tyler (RW) NHL

Makes more sense.

That seems a touch steep. Seguins injuries are a risk.

Take out Stanley or Swayman I'd say

Jake Virtanen is playable this year at a 68OVR, while Simmonds is a buyout candidate at 64OVR and a 1-way contract. I would swap those, and balance the money between them at the CPHL level, so Detroit can play him.

Forget Johnson, unless Nashville really wants him, but I think that he doesn't shift the needle.

That's where I'd start, for me, that Detroit gets a playable player instead of Simmonds, with the cap covered.

Stealth edit : now that I look at Nashville's cap situation, that might not work unless Cam takes on a Scorpion Challenge of fixing the cap later.

I voted yes. Stanley, Swayman and Studnicka represent some nice potential. I'd like to see the draft pick be a little higher so maybe I should have voted no until that change was made.

Haven't seen the reasoning by Detroit yet, so voted no for this trade. Tyler Seguin is a top forward. Simmonds was a waiver pickup, Swayman is a goalie (and they generally don't have that much value in the league), Studnicka is a good prospect, but the parts are definitely not enough. On top of that, they are sending over cheese to Nashville too. We have seen cheese having decent value in trades so far this year.

Studnicka is Boston's top ranked prospect who has yet to break out. I'm betting next year is his year.

Swayman is a goalie who I've heard about before and has just put up insane numbers everywhere he plays.

Poolman is a solid, very young Dman who I still think has a lot of potential.

Seguin is coming off an off year and is 30 years old.

I'm thinking you guys don't like the cheese I'm paying so maybe Cambam and me can think of something.

^ I would agree that all the cheese is my biggest issue with the deal. Without that you can justify it as a way to clear space.

What about this? I think it's fair.

- Studnicka, Jack (C) AHL
- Swayman, Jeremy (G) NHL
- 2023 4th Round Draft Choice (cal)

Team: Detroit Red Wings

- Seguin, Tyler (RW) NHL

I'm a Bruins fan and i know Bruce Cassidy has said Studnicka will be given the chance to be the #2 center with Krejci gone and will have Hall on his wing. Im a Seguin fan but if you dig deep his best season was 84 points, not really putting him in elite company, hurt last year, not a good year before that. Hoping with the cheese removed its considered closer
