Sitting here I knew the whole day he was going to be selected but seeing him in the new colours and city really hit it home
Can’t tell you enough Mark how much I appreciate everything you brought to Calgary the team and the city… you are such a gem and will be forever missed here. Wishing you the very best moving forward and here’s to staying young and fresh for a good time yet!
Such an inspiring career. From being undrafted*until now*, to a top end, norris trophy winning defenseman. Proud to have witnessed his incredible journey with our Calgary Flames along with you all. Incredible person. Will be hugely missed on ice and off in Calgary.
Best of luck, Gio! Hope to see you back soon.

Gio is unfailingly polite and radiates genuine energy. I first interviewed him at the 2015 Townsend Tigers game as a broadcasting student. He was just as kind when I returned to Calgary four years later. Hes also one of the only NHLers to offer to help carry camera gear

Gio and Lauren have paid for peoples groceries, taken part in birthday trains and started the Team Giordano program. Last fall, Gio and Lucic also skated with a local minor hockey player who lost his dad in a car crash to talk about grief and finding happiness in hockey.

You will be missed Gio, thank you for all you've done for the Flames and for our community, our great city was made greater by having you be part of it

It was bittersweet seeing him come out on stage with that jersey. Francis has to be pretty happy as I can't think of a better player to start a franchise with as he's going to be great for those young players. I thank him for the memories and hope for the best for him and his family in Seattle.
I'll never forget meeting you at back to back summer training camps and was completely amazed that you remember my son and I.....what a great memory you have.
So happy for you but saddened by our loss as you are moving on.
Proud of you your Norris win and of having thr honor of being named thr most improved player in thr League years ago by Scotty Bowman.
You were a warrior for us , a great captain, ambassador for the sport , and all the work you and your wife made towards out great community here in Calgary.
I remember the interview with Matt Tkachuk's mom where she explained that he came home super pumped and excited in his first year as a Flame and couldn't stop talking about how "Gio does this" and "Gio does that".
That is the biggest loss in terms of having the role model, the player that other players want to play with, the player that other players look forward to seeing at the rink, the motivation to play hard for him when he was injured etc. This is bad for the moral of the players still remaining like when a popular person gets laid off at the company.
