I love the Met...seriously. It's amazing.

Last trip I saw this

https://www.metmuseum.org/exhibition...9/play-it-loud

it was a once in a lifetime experience.

I go and look at the Degas stuff every time I'm in NYC.

The Met = awesome.

Looks like New Jersey is readying to end their rebuild.

I'm a little biased as I felt Hamilton never passed the eye test when he was in Calgary. And reading from the Carolina fans, it sounds like his game has not drastically changed. I think this trade is going to be a boat anchor contract very soon.

On paper, he's one of the top defenseman in the NHL. He's 6'6". 230 lbs. Puts up 50+ points, often leads the NHL in goals by defenseman. Good corsi stats. Has good top end spend. 28 years old.

The eye test was different. Below average breakout pass ability. Shot the puck in cases when a pass would've been a higher percentage play. Takes far too many penalties as a result of being out of position. Really slow acceleration. Doesn't go into corners or take a hit to make a play.

New Jersey does not have the greatest D and forward core. Hamilton played with Slavin in Carolina and their top 6 forwards. In Calgary, he played with Gio and Calgary's top 6. Both of which are significantly better than New Jerseys'.

I wish him the best, and that is an outstanding contract for him financially, but New Jersey is going to regret it sooner than later.

NJ is one of those teams that can quickly improve because of their lack of bad contracts.

I wonder if Dougie Hamilton is gay. I say this with full support and empathy. People say he is awkwardly reserved. A lot of rumblings that he doesn't fit in with the NHL locker room culture. These rumblings have followed him around from Boston to Calgary to Carolina. A quick google search doesn't have any hits of a girlfriend.

If he is gay, I could see how it would affect his relationships in the locker room and with other players. There will still be in groups and out groups. There are likely a non-zero amount of gay players in the NHL who haven't come out, who face social challenges that we don't know about.

Of course I could be completely wrong, but it's a thought.
I mean it's definitely possible, but at minimum he seems to be an introverted guy. The whole "rather go to a museum" thing was pretty embarrassing as a Flames fan. I know that's not the reason he was traded, but the team should have come out against that caveman bull#### pretty directly.

Personally I think a guy that doesn't fit in with a core that couldn't lead water down a hill is a good thing.

Yeah didn't think so.
