good signing. He's over 35 I think so they can give him the bonus laden contract.

Why did the Nucks buy out the goalie they obtained last year? What is the goalie situation there to allow them to be able to do that?

Because Holtby sucks and had a cap hit of 4.7 - surprise surprise, another mistake by Jim Benning.

Great pickup by the Canucks. Really good goalie as a backup. I wonder which direction do we go in.

Halak is a Flames killer. Plays like a prime Patrick Roy against the Flames. Unfortunately he plays like Red Light Racicot against the Oilers.

I just like how all these contract details are getting out. Aren't they officially not allowed to discuss terms (or contract) till noon ET?

Even though he's usually been relegates to 1B status, Halak's had a heckuva career huh

22M left to sign:

-Pettersson (7.5M?)
-Hughes (6.5M$?
-Dickinson (2.5M?)
-Juolevi (1M?)
-#1 RD
-#3 RD

$3.5M left to split for those last 2 D-men... insert "This Is Fine" meme.

This is hilarious. Corey Hirsch was just on the radio yesterday saying that he coaches Halak in St. Louis and he's not the kind of guy you want in a backup role with Demko because he doesn't want to be a backup he wants to be a starter.

Well they have Rathbone coming up, that's less than 1MM, sucks they signed Halak, always thought he was underrated and never given a chance. Interesting to see if age catches up with him or if he can still play 30 games.

Rathbone is already included in my calculations... but 1M for Brandon Sutter wasn't! So he replaces MacEwan and that brings us down to 3.3M for those two right-handed d-men. This is fun.

It's seriously looking like the Canucks top four could be Hughes / Hamonic / OEL / Myers. That's awful.

I had no idea Halak was that old already.

Ferland's $3.5M is going to be on LTIR too, so they'll be able to get relief for most of that.

Seriously you guys should go on Capfriendly and do some armchair GM teams for the Canucks and Oilers. It's very funny.
