Came down to a Kinnvall playing really well in another league vs. the few guys playing in the AHL that have shown potential (Phillips, Ruzicka, Pettersen, Pospisil)
I went Kinnvall purely based on potential, but it was really close.

Went with Pospisil.
A total shift disturber who was nearly a point per game as a 20 year old AHL pro until a dirty play took him out.
But a case can be made for a lot of players at this point.

Now down to two groups that are very different and very difficult to compare against.
1) the high-potential, but very raw group: Poirier, Jordan, Whynot, Beck
2) lower ceiling, getting a little older, but solid base group: Ruzicka, Phillips, Gawdin
Not sure which list Kinvall and Heineman fit into but I like them both before plowing into group 1.
Great that there is still so many interesting choices though.

Poirier is ok, still has glaring defensive warts that need some solid dedicated work at the next level.
Can't justify picking him when he's not even the best prospect we have on his junior team though.
My next 3:
Ruzicka
Francis
Whynot

I presume they're talking about Ryan Francis.

Yes, I was speaking of Ryan Francis.
Same size as Pelletier, similar offensive production, and plays a hard nosed game. IMO he's a right handed Mangiapane.

And I forgot to include Francis on my list of high-potential but raw players, thanks

Ruzicka! It was always between him and Kinvall for me, but I give the edge to Ruzicka.
Pretty nice for us to have quite a bit of great options. Might be the first time in a while we have a decent top 20 group.

As to Ryan Francis and his comparison to Pelletier.... Francis was not invited to Team Canada u20 tryout camp where Pelletier was an important member of the team.

I'm going with Phillips. He's the most talented player left and I think he could actually contribute this season if given an opportunity.
I understand the skepticism due to size and the fact the Flames already have some smaller forwards, but there is a player there.

You're compared Poirier to Kylington, who was on his national junior team as well while Poirier wasn't.
I am fairly ambivalent about Kylington. IMO he has not taken adequate enough steps forward defensively while he is not as exciting offensively at this level as many hoped. I think he's bound for sweden soon, and that's ok.

Wow. What an interesting poll this year's ranking is. It is about as wide open as it has ever been.

I honestly have no idea beyond the top 3. My gut feeling change with pretty much every poll. I am sticking with Ruzicka out of pure stubbornness.

My personal opinion is, that if everybody knew these players a little bit better, especially Pospisil would get more love. I think that he's the best Slovak prospect for Calgary.

After Kinnvall is off the board I'm going to have to do a little research. Francis is a player I'd like to know more about, he and poirier seem to be the highest skill cielings left on the board.
