Sounds like the blue line is rounding into shape. I guess we'll see if Giordano is in there too.

NHL and ESPN might as well have paid him to do the reveal and scrapped the expensive production.

Not that significant, I think. Dunn took a step back last season, was scratched a few times iirc, and struggled in extremely sheltered minutes.

Expansion rules are far too lopsided in favour of the team. That D-corps is better on paper than a lot of established teams. Doesn't seem right.

I didn't even realize he was unprotected with all the talk about Tarasenko but this is obviously a better pick.

Funny what $600M can buy, and that doesn't even count arena, staff and salary cap.

It is also worth nothing that every team gets a piece of the $600,000,000.

They didn't just pay for seat at the table, they are paying for a good seat.

Literally the rules mean at best they get teams 4th best D man

If they can assemble a D corp's of 6 #4's and be better then a lot of established teams, maybe other teams need to think about how they build a team.

I don't believe on paper their D will be better then many. However, as a TEAM they may compliment each other's skillset's better.

Far too lopsided? I don't think so.

You have to remember that even 1 extra protection slot per team completely changes the expansion landscape.

Go back and redo the expansion draft but select the 2nd best option on every team. You'll notice they go from competitive to bottom feeder real quick. Give each team two extra slots and you'll have one of the worst non-Oiler NHL teams of the last 25 years.

There is no easy answer here because they had to make the rules the same for the 30 teams losing a player. It's not like the league could limit Seattle to taking 23 guys as it would disproportionately affect some teams more than others.

So the cost of hurting everyone the same is that Seattle gets a good team out of the gate.
