I read that the kraken have to submit official list at 7:00 am pacific time. Does that mean if by some remote chance that Tre comes to an agreement not to pick Gio it would have to be done after draft?

I would bet at this stage, players are already aware if they were selected.

Sounds like some of them will be in Seattle for the announcement

Gord Miller was on the radio yesterday saying that they do practice hits like that all the time at the nhl draft and one year they did one where they announced the first pick and used one of the kids names and everyone thought that would be the first pick. They didn't have a clue who it was but they had to use a name for the practice of it.

All I know is we'd probably win a cup faster if we sold the current team to Quebec, paid an expansion fee to buy a new franchise, petitioned the league to be able to call it the Flames (see: Jets), and then got our own expansion draft.

Rumor is there's a very legitimate Kerfoot fish video... just not that one.

So if Oleksiak signs the same as Larrson, they are sitting at 16.6 (Kerfoot and Gourde). Need 16 more players that are under contract 21-22. I don't know if I am just talking myself into thinking Gio won't be selected, but if Price is selected I don't think Gio will be selected. Not if they want to weaponize their cap space.

Chris Johnston on SN590 says Seattle asking huge prices if teams want to trade for a player they select from another team. Told teams that if they want them to select and trade Killorn it would cost two 1sts.

Seems Francis is saving GMs from themselves.

Essentially saying " we are going to pick our team and there's nothing you can do about it outside of bending over and taking it up the tailpipe "

Yeah Francis needs to be careful he’s not asking too much here.

You need to be able to trade some of the pieces you draft for younger pieces and picks.

Ask too much now and other GMs will return the favour when you’re in a bind post draft and need to move some bodies.

Yup, you end up with ~16-17 NHL quality forwards, but have only 13-14 roster spaces on the main team - and a similar situation for defenseman.

You likely want to trade a couple expansion picks away for draft picks and prospects.

Francis may be setting the bar too high, and missing out on some good opportunities to make his team better.

I do think Francis has overplayed his hand a bit. For some of the teams that had two or three players that the Kraken liked on the unprotected list, they could have essentially ended up with both a pick and a player that they liked had they negotiated in good faith with the other team. It may have been a second or a couple of third round picks but it is better to have a player + additional assets than just a player. They probably could have done this with several teams and still iced a team that they liked.
