Default Who will be the Flames captain next season?

I was wondering if we could make a poll, and what do you guys think?
  1. Giordano
  2. Tanev
  3. Backlund
  4. Tkachuk
  5. Lindholm
  6. Monahan
  7. Lucic
  8. No captain
  9. A player not currently with the Flames

Does it even matter who the next captain is? Who is the best person for the job?

Personally I think it is more likely to be Backlund(captained team Sweden), or Tanev(leadership on the back end).

Next season, I bet we just don't have one

Full time A on Monahan, Tkachuk and Backlund

Better picture of who can be a long term captain after that, like if Tkachuk has a bounce back year then signs a big extension I think he's the guy. But not right now after a down year and pending RFA

If they're committed to Tkachuk and we lose Gio, I hope they give him the C.

If they're not fully committed to him and we lose Gio, I'd rather they just run with 3 A's. I don't think giving someone like Backlund or Tanev the C is worth it as they could both possibly decline into overpaid whipping boys

Giordano. I feel like they're going to make a deal

If not, they won't have a captain next season and have Backlund, Monahan, Tkachuk, Lucic and Tanev alternate A's

I could see Backlund getting it.

Yeah, it’s a bit early especially since 2-3 players on that list might not be here to start the season. I think it could also be something to help a younger player thrive. I have a hard time seeing Tkachuk in that role though, because he already seems to put so much pressure on himself.

I remember one video from Linholm’s first season with the Flames, and he pretty much referred to Backlund as dad. Backlund definitely has me intrigued as an option though.

I was confident that it would be one of Monahan or Tkachuk but I’m also not confident that those guys will be here come October.

I think the likely option is going no captain this year and figuring out what direction to take the team.

No captain this coming season and they'll give it to Tkachuk the following year if he signs an extension.

If Gio goes, and I'm still not convinced the Kraken take him, I think it goes to Monahan.

Captainhood is one those things I just don't feel I have enough information on to have much of a preference.
We have such little idea of what goes on with the team.

Lucic and Lindholm are other names to consider.
Lucic would be perfect, but his play might decline at pretty much any time, and it would be odd to healthy scratch a captain.
Lindholm seems to be well-liked, but he also seems to be very easy going. He's one of the few consistent players on the team.

Honestly, based on interactions with the media, Johnny seems like more of a captain than Monahan does. If Johnny were to sign a long team friendly deal with the team, it would show how much he cares.
But again, we barely know what goes on.

If Tkachuk was that committed to the team, why did he make himself a UFA by the age of 25? Money? Well high cap hits don't help the team.
He would be a good A, but I'm not sure about C.

I'd be fine with Backlund. How many Scurfield Humanitarian awards has he won? Like 24?

Why would it be an epic fail? Conroy gave Iggy the captaincy... I can see Backlund doing something similar. Do you feel that Backlund wouldn't be able to motivate teammates? or wouldn't be able to keep players accountable?

I think Lindholm, but I'm also not totally convinced Seattle take Gio

I agree, it's very difficult to know a room's dynamic. Before Gio was made captain I thought they might give it to Glencross. I didn't include Gaudreau on the list, because he didn't seem like he was after a leadership position. I was going off of the alternate captains, and players that exhibited leadership at least with the media(like Lucic).

If Gio goes to Seattle I would talk to Tkachuk after the dust settles about an extension and potentially table a 8 year 72M deal with the C as part of the deal. If he turns it down then I am going with no captain for next year and re-evaluate in a years time. Could be full blown rebuild at that time or a new face of the franchise brought in
