AAV is fine...but man that's a lot of term for a 28 year old 3rd line forward.

I really like Goodrow, but that term is a little long. Probably counting on the cap going up.

Players of Goodrow's calibre should never be signed for 6 years. Why?

Calle Jarnkrok is a similar player and signed a 6 year 12 million dollar deal.
It was an excellent contract.
However, Jarnkrok was only 22 when he signed it. Goodrow is 28. And 2 million is a lot less than 3.6.

Goodrow is a very well rounded player but I don't like the term or AAV of this one. Maybe they shouldn't have fired their GM because of Tom Wilson

Nothing more overrated than roleplayers on cup winning teams.

It's funny.
Coleman and Goodrow were always tied together like they were the same calibre of player since Tampa traded for both of them under similar circumstances.
When in reality Coleman is 3x the player Goodrow is.
Goodrow is getting his payday because of the circumstances of how he was acquired, and from playing with Coleman. It's great for him.

If people think Goodrow at $3.6M for 6 years is bad...oh boy, do I hope we miss out on Zach Hyman.
They're very similar players, but Hyman is being rumoured to be close to that 6 years and $5-$6M AAV range, and I just don't see how they're viewed as being on different tiers. The effect of playing in Toronto, I guess...
*edit
Well, that was a bad take by me it seems

Over the past three regular seasons Zack Hyman has produced at a 28 goal, 55 point pace while Goodrow has produced at a 8 goal, 25 point pace. Not exactly comparable.

Goodrow: 331 games, 93 points
Hyman: 345 games, 185 points
They are similar players in that they both play in the NHL. Hyman is waaaay better.

Well, one got to ride shotgun with Auston Matthews and John Tavares and the other played on the second and third lines in various roles. I think Hyman definitely has the halo effect working for him. I would be hesitant to pay Hyman more than Goodrow's contract. Seems like a mistake in the making. Kind of like giving Zach Kassian a big extension for riding shotgun on McDavid's wing.

Reason: Wanted to add Tavares for accuracy

No one should be using the Goodrow contract and extrapolating what Hyman should get. No matter what you think of Hyman.
(Unless you are Hyman's agent).
