Flames LeBrun: Flames are looking at every single scenario to try and keep Giordano

https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/video/lebrun-...ordano~2241650

summary:
Flames don't want to lose Giordano to Seattle and are looking at every scenario
probably a stretch to suggest that they would try to protect 4 d-men by going to the 8 skater protection model because it would expose some forwards they don't want to lose either
last few days there have been renewed discussions between Calgary and Seattle on what the price would be not to take Giordano
as of Wednesday the price is high based on what LeBrun is hearing from other teams around the league, but the price might lower before the protection lists are due
Another option (if they can't negotiate a side deal) is to trade a d-man or make a hockey trade (which LeBrun believe is being explored as well)

Not sure how to feel about this. By no means do I want Gio gone at all, I love the guy. But it is definitely a case of bite the bullet and move on, don't give up anything else

Trade him to a team on his list that has cap space then

Why are we doing Seattle favors? Division rival, take whatever is offered from an eastern team and let the division rival pick from our scraps

The added difficulty is they need to find a team on his list, has the cap space, and has a protection slot.

Interesting comment about trading another D man.
Hanifin and Anderson and Tanev are all valuable assets.

This is not good news. I just can't how this works out for the Flames.

Better not be giving up picks or good young prospects

FFS do not pay through the nose for 1 year of a guy that doesn't get them to the playoffs and certainly doesn't show up when they do make it.

Well sure, I don't disagree with that in theory, but since the news is discussing options to keep Giordano I don't see that option as being high on the Flames' priority list. Plus how many teams have a protection slot open for such a thing? Doubt anyone is eager to make that kind of trade before the deadline, unless Holland is still open for business

Let him go. No need to get emotional about this decision. This team can't afford to give up assets to keep an aging defenceman.

holy hell, just let it happen.

Price is high? who cares.

Lose Giordano. It's fine. It's one season.

Don't fall into this trap.

Love Giordano but smart asset management says to just let him go if they want to take him.

On second thought, I would offer Seattle Treliving to keep Gio.

Yeah, let him go. Would be a terrible idea to trade assets to try and keep a soon to be 38 Giordano , but this is the Calgary Flames we're talking about.

Man this organization is getting increasingly harder to support. This is why Treliving should have been let go. This is already an asset poor organization largely due to his mismanagement and he's looking at going back to the well one more time for a single year of a soon to be 38 year old defenseman. SMH.

What if it costs a 3rd to keep Gio, but they trade him for a first at the TDL? Bad asset management?

Just controlling the narrative so they can say "we tried every scenario to keep our captain"

Am I the only one who sees this as good news? That means that we aren't wasting a protection slot on Gio. Sure, you check your options. Can you trade another defenceman before the draft? Well we tried but the return was miserable on account of the exp draft. Make a deal with Seattle...well we tried but they wanted a first.

Sorry Mark, explored all the options and found them all lacking. Good luck on the coast.

The team is going nowhere in the short term. Let him go. If he was out of contract this summer instead of next, I doubt the Flames would be offering him more than three million a year for two years. He's old and on his way out. At his salary, let him be old and broken down on someone else's team.
