100% cap circumvention. No way he is just perfectly "ready" for the first game of the playoffs. But the league will completely look the other way just like it always does.

This is exactly what people said would happen.

If Gaborik decides he wants another ring then they'll be really screwed.

You would think that an independent doctor would need to certify if he is ready or not, if that isn't the case it should be.

I was initially WTF? Then I looked it up. Lightning have $17.7M on LTIR. WTF.

Scummy move, no way the NHL should allow this. But we all likely know what will happen.

And with all of those ending they are still somehow 3.5M over the cap next season with only 15 players...a 20 man roster would put them 5.6M over.

He legit needed surgery. It's not like he wouldn't have made Tampa better in the regular season too, and I think its safe to guess that Kucherov would rather hockey than spend months on LTIR.
Beyond that, I dont really care that much. Its not like players are going to start going to surgery just for cap reasons if this isn't dealt with.

Especially when the Flames aren't among the contenders.

This is Tampa didn't need to be any better...there needs to be a rule or the whole thing is a joke.
Ten regular season games or no playoffs...sorry guy

Sorry I edited my post after you quoted it, but this isnt going to be a way teams deliberately start circumventong the cap. Players aren't going under the knife for that reason.
And I'd rather see Kucherov play.

Man that really is fortunate timing for them. What a massive stroke of luck that he will likely be ready just in time for the playoffs when there is no cap anymore. Amazing, amazing stuff.

Forsberg did it in the non-cap era. Nobody said the Avs were cheating.

Seems like it should be easy enough to fix in the future...for any contract over $3M or players over 35 to be eligible for the playoffs a player needs to be on your cap for at least 30 days (or whatever number) in that season...

This is good, need Tampa to continue to be good the next 3-4 years to make sure Oilers don't have a sniff at a cup

Just assign a number of regular season games needed to be eligible for playoffs. Easy solution.

This will get about as much a look from the NHL as the McDavid elbow the other night.
