Default What is a Lackluster Trade Anyways?

What is a blockbuster lackluster trade anyways? We don't hear the term thrown out these days in almost every single deal. Heck, Scorp calls all his deals blockbusters even if the deal is filled with players no one has heard of.

Long gone are the days of the true blockbuster lackluster trades where many different parts are moving and more than one big name being traded.

Until now.

Sitting very comfortable 2nd overall in the mighty western Eastern conference, the stunningly handsome Sharks Flyers GM MJK JonDuke is still winning some hockey games even while sitting his stud Bergeron for fear of an injury before the playoffs dressing his best players cause he ain't no punk. With many top end players shifting their way through already in the lineup this season, the Sharks Flyers went from a bottom feeder early on this season to were always one of the top teams in the entire league. There was even a point where Pat from the Avalanche was giddy like a school girl because he owed the Sharks 1st round pick. and DM'd GMJD to say "hey dude, nice roster."

Studs like Mackinnon, Bergeron, Stamkos, Tavaras, Letang, Trouba, Landeskog, Malkin Matthews, Svechnikov, Schenn, Lindholm, Oshie, Kapanen and Duchene have all played for the Sharks Flyers this season, some have gone and have even come back again. and not a single one ever willingly left because they know Philly has a great shot at the CPHL cup this year.

This is how it works. You struggle, you trade do nothing but cross your fingers until you find a fit. Start struggling again and you trade some more.cross more fingers.

A month ago there was a deal brewing between the Sharks and Flames that would see Mac Daddy pack his bags. We did the math and landed on the parts that would make a deal work and a trade we could live with but in true Ravi fashion, he just couldn't let go of certain players and so the talks died. SportsJunky didn't send me a single message at all.

Well, fast forward to late Monday night where another PM was sent from the Flames Sabres looking to open talks back up again which saw a rather stern PM sent back to the Flames GM telling him that talks never go anywhere and we don't like wasting our time so for that reason Mackinnon wasn't available. The stern PM included a reminder that we had already taken the time to put together a deal that made sense we believed was fair based on other offers received and we firm on that. about acquiring Duchene.

Someone using Ravi's JonDuke's account then wrote back and said we should both stop wasting our time and he was prepared to do the deal as I proposed it some 30+ days ago. he would trade his favorite player, Matthew Bartholemew Duchene

And so a trade was born.

To Calgary Buffalo:
Nathan Mackinnon
Jake McCabe
James Reimer

Matt Duchene and his cap

To San Jose Philly:
Matthew Tkachuk
Sean 'Moneyhands' Monahan
Brendan Dillon
2022 1st(nyi)

Antti Tuomisto
Filip Hallander
2021 3rd (min)

That, my friends, is a blockbuster lackluster.

***********************************************

This was tough for GMJD who has always been a huge fan of Duchene.
But paying him $6.5M CPHL dollars next year for his current NHL production scared the crap outta me and we would much rather use that money to stuff the pockets of Kaprizov.
We know it's dangerous trading him within our own conference to the team right below us in the standings but felt like this was a move that had to be done before the summer and the acquisition of Bailey made it much more possible.
Thanks to SportsJunky for the super easy chat.
We look forward to a key player on our team breaking a leg within the next week or so and then having GMJD cry like a baby, wishing he had kept Ducthy on the roster.

Yeah Duchene's rating next year won't be pretty but for the playoffs he has some good offensive attributes I'm looking for. We have traded a lot recently to load up for a postseason run. Let's see if it works.
Credit to JD for sending him to an eastern team. I don't think we scare Philly lol.

This trade is absolutely mediocre. I’m completely underwhelmed. Mind tickled.

Average job to both teams.

Damn. I was hoping that Buffalo's weakend centre ice position would be enough for me to tilt the scales in a potential playoff bout but this is a decent stop gap.
